Just to let you know, scrap metal prices have gone through the roof and most of your salvage yards have been cleaning house.

There used to be a yard close to us that kept forty or so 1980's vintage Chargers/Omnis/Daytonas around for parts--well, no more. Stopped out there last week for some interior parts and found the place was all but empty.

Did some calling of other area salvage yards and encountered similar situations all over--

If you're planning on keeping your 1980's vintage Shelby/Dodge until you retire and can enjoy it, you might want to stock up on spare parts before they're all in the crusher.

I've already crushed 20+ TD cars. at $285/ton and $90 for a catalytic converter, it was a very nice chunk of cash. I still have 10 more to crush. So if anyone wants my last 10 TD cars, you can have them for scrap price. (89 Shelby Z, several Lebaron turbos coupe and converts, some turbo minvans, 86 Turbo Z)

DAMN! my dad has about 20 or so td's and we are not crushing them AT ALL!
We refuse! We have a salvage yard and the cars are gonna sit in that back corner~!
Sry to hear your crushing but that just makes these cars rarer I suppose.
Would like an intercooler setup if you have one!

Why sorry? I can junk the stuff for a lot more than anyone is willing to pay. People seem to think that a $500 TD should run/drive and be in mint shape. $500 is less than I'm junking them for.

Why would you do that? Once they're gone they're gone, they dont make any more, i know scrap prices are high but thats no reason to just go scrapping. thats like scraping old mopars just for the money. instead of restoring them, parts are getting scarce enough as it is. No offense dude.

because the more I crush, the more valuable yours will be. Maybe even enough to be on Jackson Barrett 30 years from now. I've crushed 5 turbo shelby chargers, 3 turbo stick minivans, 4 turbo shelby daytonas. one was all digital. I try to sell the stuff for next to nothing on this board and all I get is "man, I wish I had the money". or could you hold it for me until I get my welfare check. then there's a lot of, "I want it" and 6 months later "dude, can I still get that car/part" Believe me if you deal with as many rounder tire kickers as I have, you'd be glad to just dump the stuff for more $ and way less hassle. I have less pissing and moaning selling a $5000 minivan over a $500 minivan. The $500 buyer wants the quality, miles, condition of the $5000 vehicle. The cheaper the car the more PITA the buyer

If people want them they can go "save them" by buying them. There is no demand in that area. What is the guy going to do? leave outside to sit and rust and eventually be scrapped anyway?

Maybe 22dodge can do a big for sale thread as a last ditch effort tho.

I tried that. I posted a while back 5 lebaron converts and 1 coupe. 3 turbo cars 3 v-6. 3 would move under their own power. I offered all 6 for $2000. ended up scraping all 6 for close to $3,000, I also offered 2 shelby Z's 87-88 both complete one ran/drove. I offered the pair for $800, junked them for over a grand, even left on the rear louvers because no-one was willing to pay the high shipping costs. economics dictates value. I don't really car who buys my stuff if I get my price. Whether it be a junkyard or an enthusist. Money is money, why should I care where it comes from.

Quote for the TRUTH!

I'll never try to sell my TDs again. It'll be parted and get crushed. Never have I received so many, "Your cars is nice, but I don't have the fund right now, can you hold your car for xxx months?" e-mails.

And maybe you folks are finding out that this may be the market place of last resort. Not everyone who likes turbododges has heard of this site. Look at me. I have had a Shelby CSX-T for 10 years and just showed up here on the forum a couple months ago.

The other problem seems to be that we are all trying to restore and/or modify the cars on a budget.

It is unfortunate when the cars are lost. It is why I wish I saw fewer posts in here with the air of buy it or I part it out then crush it. I have watched too many running cars meet their demise because the owner could not turn the car in a certain time frame. That is in just the short time I have been here too.
