90 Daytona TI, 2.5L 5 speed

When I'm trying to accelerate and reach about 6psi of boost, I hear a steady honk sound coming from under the hood. If I let up to let the boost diminish, the noise goes away. If I tromp on it again, it comes right back.

Anyone run into this?

I tried to duplicate the noise sitting in the driveway by revving the engine, but cant get it to even build up enough boost to get anywhere near 5 psi.

Thanks
Patrick

The turbo won't spool without the engine being under load. You have a boost leak somewhere. Check all your intake hoses/connections.

probably as funny as when I put a duck call on my SRT-4s bov...fun times

The hose was attached but still loose because there was no clamp on it. So, under boost, it would, I guess, blow air out past the lip of the hose and kinda make it flap and make the honk noise. Since it happened on acceleration, I was getting really good at driving to the point of boost but then not getting it to make the noise by backing off slightly. Otherwise, all the drivers of the cars around me were looking at me and wondering why I was honking.

I got great gas mileage while it was making the noise. Suddenly, after I fixed the noise, the mpg has plummeted! ; )

See, now I've gotta get a BOV just so I can hook a duck call up to it.

I laughed for an hour after I read that and started thinking how many different calls I could hook up-deer, duck, goose, elk ect.
Do you think that would get the ricers to race?
What would they tell their friends? ( I got beat by a car that sounded like a duck)

A classic idea, to be sure. Clearly, I'll have to go with the Canada Goose call.

I'll have to stay out of the boost in the fall or I'll screw up their migration South!
