OK, background on my car. 84 Turbo Z, T1, 2.2L. Previous owner says it has +20 injectors and a Stage II ECU. I've been working through a bunch of issues with the car (wheel bearings replaced, various sensors, etc.) The one that I am stuck on relates to a Code 23 error message. Everything I have read on this forum thus far tells me that my car does not have an ACT. I have narrowed the issue down to one specific sensor that I can physically locate, but I'll be darned if I can figure out what it is. I'd take a picture, but I'm not sure how to post it here so I'll try to describe the location.

The sensor is on the intake manifold. If you are standing in front of the car, there are three "plugins" in the top of the intake. From right to left, I have a plugin with a couple of vacuum lines coming off it, another sensor in the middle (I am not sure what this one does) and the one on the left, which I believe to be the culprit. I thought (until recently) that this was the ACT. I went to my local parts store and ordered one. Got it and the sensor screws into that location just fine, but the connectors are not the same. Took that sensor back, explained what I needed and they ordered me a coolant temp sensor (which is definitely not what I needed). The sensor I need to replace has two threaded terminals on the top, is made of plastic, and is able 3/4 of an inch in diameter. I'll try to get pictures and figure out how to post them.

Any assistance that can be provided would be most beneficial. Thanks in advance.

sounds like a temp sensor ...

not sure if the log-TIs had them ?

maybe the PO added a cal which wanted the sensor (like a TII cal?)

the other sensor (should be just 1 wire) which looks like the bottom half of a spark plug should be the knock sensor

PS I'm not an expert on log-TI's

Let's see if I can get the pictures up...

It has to be something. I know when I have the car running and unplug the sensor, it continues to run as normal but the Power Limited light comes on. I get some codes in the teens relating to sensors that I no longer have over the passenger wheel well, Code 23, then Code 55.

IRRC, early garret t1s did have the act, later the t1 mitsus lost the sensor.

So is that what I am looking at in the pictures? An Air Charge Temperature Sensor?

This is the image of the part I got from one of the major auto parts chains. This is the correct image and they list it as an "Air Charge Sensor". Of course, it's not available to purchase. The place I normally go doesn't list this specific one and has sold me two of the wrong part now.

I found the part online. Has anyone ever ordered anything from or had any dealings with Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto I'm liking their online catalog and they have parts listed in an easy to find manner. That being said, I'm hoping to get the sensor sometime next week in the mail.

Thanks to everyone for their assistance with this.

Advance Auto Parts can get it for you in about 2 days. The part number is WT363 and the cost is $9.08.

Advanced Auto Parts is the store I normally use. I got this part from them last week. It's not the correct part. The connector on my car doesn't match this one. This was the first part I had, they then ordered me a different part that turned out to be the coolant temp sensor. All three are the same basic size and shape, but the part you referenced is the wrong connector and the part they got me was just the wrong sensor altogether. I ordered the part from Auto Parts Fast at RockAuto for $30 shipped. We'll see if it's the right part.

Also as a side note, Autozone says they carry the part, they have the correct image of the part, but the guy at the store tells me the part (Duralast Air Charge Temp Sensor) is on national backorder with no ETA. I'm thinking since it's for an 84, they may or may not have stopped making them, since I can't imagine the demand for this particular sensor is too high at this point, but I may be wrong.

84 is a bad year for stuff like that - they changed stuff mid-year. The ACT you were handed at the parts store was probably correct... for an 85.

Anyway... if RockAuto doesn't come through...

Walk in the parts store and tell them you have a 82 omni and need a "dual-thermister" for the ESA computer and see what they hand you... its the carb equivalent of a CTS (kind of).

I'm betting they'll hand you the part you've been looking for

I'll definitely do that if Rock Auto doesn't come through for me. I'm hoping they do. I'm getting tired of keeping track of what I put on my card, when the store creditted me for it, and when I bought the new wrong stuff. Thanks for the advice.
