dont have an engine hoist unfortunately and Ill be buying a large jack on my next paycheck, just need it for my trans jack plate. Any way to do it without one? I may be able to rent one at the local hardware store. As it sits the VC and Alt w/ bracket are off along w/ the timing belt. The head bolts are sitting in the head but loose. All wiring and fuel rail are out of the way. I just need the oil lines ect pulled along with any brackets on the back. $20 hr is more than reasonable but I may not be able to pay in one shot (up to about $350 in one shot most likely) but Id make sure you got payed 100%. If you need parts for a neon I got plenty (including a clean block) and I have a few parts for the tona you could have as well if youd be interested. PM me if you like and we can work something out Id really appreciate the help! (the radiator/ic setup is removed for more room as well and I do have a couple 4x4s and chain) if it helps I have 260pc and 134pc tool sets along with a breaker bar. 4 jack stands, 2.5 ton jack, Advnc Auto click type torque wrench and Im sure Im forgetting some stuff lol. Id also be happy to supply food and, uhh, any drinks nec to get the job doneFYI this is how she sits now:

I wish that was the case. I drop everything and lose sleep during the day (work 3rd shift) to help them fix their cars at any given time but when I need them they are nowhere to be found, rather be racing there no longer broken ass imports at the local circuit. Besides the fact that they are incompetant and cant even take off an alternator (he dropped it STILL ATTACHED to the wires and let it hang!)

So long they're all muscle, you're fine. All you need them to do is to lift the head up with you and then put it back on. You can do the rest.

agree. What keeps you from doing this yourself. Took me a week to do my first headgasket and drop my rebuilt tranny in my car!
There's plenty of help. And its really not that hard!

Yeah, my friends (that were ALWAYS around) made themselves scarce when I took the drive train (including leaf springs and rearend) out of my wrecked 340 Duster and transplanted it in my $70.00 '69 Barracuda fastback. I couldn't find them for a week and a half. But one showed up the last day to help me throw the shift kit in the tranny and install that. The next day most were around to go to the strip with me and watch me get a trophy!
It's pretty much a one man job until you need to pull (and reset) the head with the turbo, intake and exhaust attached off. That can be tough since it's a reach and heavy holding it out. In a pinch, I've had my wife take up just enough weight off the far end to drop it on target. Another time a neighbor walked up at the right time. Once, I pulled the hood so I could stand above it and lift it. Have a few layers of cardboard sitting there off to the side and you can set it down right away. Then jump off the car and grab it and set it somewhere to get working on the rest.

That looks easy. I should run across the street and get "MY" tilt bar from my neighbor. I sure hope he remembers who loaned it to him.

I wish I had a lift, thatd make my life easier. Would unbolting the front engine mount let me swing it around enough to get the turbo lines and stuff off or should I pull the transmission and just sit there? (trust me Ill fit lol). Im planning on pulling the hood and front end to gain more access as the radiators already out.

I wish I was there to help. Changing the head gasket is some work but to pull the tranny? Why?That is a chore in it's self.Could you rent a hoist somewhere?you'd only need it for a day.
