Hi All,

Yesterday, on my lunch break, my GTC just died. No codes. I was really low on gas, but not out. I have added some, but don't hear the fuel pump prime. I'm pretty sure the pump finally went out. Is there any type of relay or anything that I could check under the hood that could cause the pump to fail? Or do I just get under there and bang on it and see if it fires up a couple more times. I never have seen a bad pump that didn't let you sqeeze a little more out of it. At least to let you know, yes, it was my pump. I did change the rotor and wires with another set I had here since it did something similar to what the Sundance did this winter. Also no codes, but that car started again after the parts were changed.

Yes, there is a relay for the fuel pump. My 1986 GTC turbo fuel pump dead shorted while the wife was driving it. It acutally fried the power module circuit board. This year had the ASD relay soldered directly to the board in the power module. There was no warning what so ever before the pump went out. This one took some serious trouble shooting. Had no power at the coil, injectors or pump. I actually opened the power module case to see the circuit in the board fried to the ASD.

Before you condemn the pump though, make sure you have spark. A bad distributor pickup will also shut down the pump. You won't hear it prime.

uh, i dont think so. i unplugged my hep and when i turn on the key, the pump still primes but it don't come on when cranking due to no hep. but it still primes on initial key on.

If you want to flat-out eliminate the pump before you go looking all over the place. Hook a volt meter up to the hot wire to the pump and have a partner turn the key and crank the engine while you watch what it does.
If you can't find your volt meter, Try using a long piece of wire as a test lead from the battery to the pump. If the pump doesn't work then change it. If the pump works, then go chasing down relays, cuts, shorts, and voltage-drops.

It seems somebody put a hex on your cars lately. I hope your luck changes

I assume I'd get a code for the pick-up coil though. There's no codes. (Well, other than the obvious #15, speed sensor that's always giving me problems)

As far as problems with my cars. I drive FWD Mopars, I'm use to it. I've got a brake locking up on the GLHS again. I just replaced the caliper with a known good one and put a new hose there. Starting to lock again. That was a temperary repair. I'm converting to minivan brakes tonight. If it doesn't rain on me.
I'll look at the relays and probably bang on the pump.
And yes, it would be nice to have a Toyota for a daily driver.
