Ok as the situation has it i was blessed with a blown 2.2l turbo engine when i bought my car i was forced to swap my engine out(luckily I get dodge parts for next to nothing and a free brand spanking new 87 2.5l TBI block which i decided to put all my 2.2 turbo parts onto it except for the garret t1 turbo which ass the necessary accomodations were made to make it a turbo 2.5L spec .
1989 sundance 2.5L turbo 2 computer
2.2 wiring harness
1987 tbi 2.5 block
2.2L turbo cam with 2.2 cam gear
1988 distributer gear(i thought this might have been the problem that the teeth could have been slightly different on the 2.5L and the 2.2 but i verified they were the same when i ordered the 2.5 gear in

the only thing that was changed from the 2.2 gears was the gear that connects to the crankshaft which propels the belt this was replaced with a 1987 unit because the 88 2.2 wouldnt fit the shaft

now when this car is timed correctly for a short period of time it SCREAMMS(caps for max emphasis) but the car quickly runs itself out of time foward a few degrees, so my question is what could it be?is the 2.2 distributer different from the 2.5 one? is my 87 2.5 timign belt not correct?...if you need to know anymore things about the car to properly diagnose it I will respond immediatly thanks

you put the 2.2 turbo reciprocating assembly (crank, rods, pistons) in a 2.5 tall-deck block?
This is what you are saying?
Whatever...

If you only care about losing time... you shouldn't have a problem if you used the gears and belt from the 2.5... make sure that the cam gear and i-shaft gear are absolutely identical. Use a 2.5 crank gear too.

I prolly would have thought about having the machine shop deck the F outta that block to give it the 2.2's deck height.

What do you mean by "runs itself out of time foward a few degrees"? Cam timing? Ignition timing? How are you measuring this? Also, what is a "short period of time"? If you can explain whether you are talking about cam timing or ignition timing, as well as how you are measuring the change in timing, you will be much closer to getting an answer.

Well, this seems obvious. 1987 crank pulleys were square tooth. All 1988 and newer engines have round tooths. So are you mixing?

no im not mixing it was 89+ i beleive that was round tooth because the 87 2.5 block was square tooth and so were my 88 gears, i double checked and even ordered in new gears from the dealership and they are the exact same is the deck hight on the 87 N/A 2.5 any different? is their any different ways to tune it because when it runs correctly it pulls as hard as a mother but it quickly runs itself out of time, another thing it could be..is the 2.5 distributor any different from the 2.2? and is their any special ways i have to time it such as disconnecting a vacuum line? -

thank you , all help is appreciated

Get everything lines up as the maual says, start the car, unplug the temp switch, grab your timing gun out and time it.

Rough post I know, i'm heading to bed ~~~ Tired

Ok, part of the problem is that you are running tbi rods and pistons on a turbo motor, so you need to keep the boost low. The engine may be pinging and lowering timing. The second problem may be (iirc) there is a difference in timing a square tooth cam on a round tooth cam. Do a search on "cam timing square round" to confirm or maybe someone else can chime in.

^'s right the square belt on a round tooth gear will make it about 1 maybe 1.5 off..
