Okay, so I have a 1993 Daytona (2.5L TBI/5spd A523) that I need to pull the engine and tranny out of...

I have removed the engine by itself in these cars before, but I would like to know the best way to disconnect the drive axles so that I can remove the engine and transmission and engine together.

Any advice?

I'm not sure if it is the best way, but I usually pop the lower ball joint. That way it has minimal impact on alignment when you reassemble the car.

remove the big axle nut something like a 32 MM remove the sway bar mounts on both lower control arms and just loosen the frame mount sway bar bushings. (this lets you pry the lower ball joints apart easier) remove the pinch bolt of the lower ball joint and pry the knuckle off the ball joint stud. To get the axle out from here is easy. I turn the steering wheel right to take out the left side axle and left to get the right side out. turning the wheel lets you have more room to pull the strut spindle assy out farther to pop the outer cv out of the bearing hub. once the bearing hub is clear pop the inner joint out of the trans. don't pull on the shaft to do this the shaft could pull apart. use a pry bar and pop it from the back of the inner joint. Have a pan near by trans oil will usually come out when you pull the shaft. Pull both and the engine trans should come out ok for you.

Very good Info , it is easier to prevent a mess than it is to clean one up !!

The BEST method it to get a shop manual at RTFB.

You could take a torch or sawzall and cut the shafts in the middle, then the inner joint will stay in the trans so you don't loose fluid and make a mess. This also allows the outer joint to stay in the hub so you can roll the car around and not have the bearing fall apart.

How many times have you posted a pic of that car as a guide to pull motor and tranny out the bottom?

I think that is how tryingbe changes the oil too, takes engine out removes filler cap and turns engine upside down to pour the oil out.
