Hey so i'm going to be putting my car together here in the next few weeks and i remembered that when i last had it together that i WASN'T able to mount the a555 shifter in place of the a525 being the WAY different bracket configurations/mounting position.

I was trying to use a combination of different cables and then use the stock
a525 shifter but i couldn't get it to throw right

HELP ME!!!!!

I have an 86 dodge lancer and I just upgraded my transmission from the a-525 to the a-520 and I think the a-520 shifter that I installed is the same as your a-555 shifter.

I think I can help you and I'll get some pictures up tomorrow. You may be able to modify that current shifter and when I post the pictures you will get a clearer idea of how, or you might need new shifter cables and the mounting bracket for the a-555 shifter if that one will bolt up.

the first picture is of the whole a-525 shifter assembly and the second is of where the cables mount into it and the third is how the cables mount into the a-520 shifter mount and the forth picture is an under shot of the shifter bracket that you apparently dont have to mount to the 3 hole shifter that you have. I would take a better picture of the shifter in my car if you need it but im not entirely sure how to take off the black cover that you took off because when I installed my shifter I took out more of the center console but I guess I didnt need to. If the black cover is glued on then I dont want to take that off like you did in your pictures but if its not then I can take it off and you will get a much better picture of the whole shifter mount assembly

hope that helps

Hummm......

First off...thanks for the pics

Wow there is a big offset difference between where the cables mount...

So you took the whole shifter mount out of another car and mounted it in yours right?
thats what it looks like...

Or did you flaten off the top of the a525 mount, weld a plate to the top of it and drill/cut holes for the shifter to fit in...

I'm getting the drift you didn't do the swap yourself??? not to be rude...

Im not sure but I think that the travel in the 2 shifters is different and if thats the case then the old shifter might not work.

I have a few unrelated questions for you about your rear brakes

1. did those brakes come with the lancer pacifica if not what car are they from

2. Are the rotors and brake pads hard to find for them

the reason im asking is that I just bought off ebay a set of rear disk brake assemblies from a CSX and one of the rotors is worn down below the minimum thickness and want to get new ones but mine are a little different than yours because they have the drum inside the rotor for the E-brake and they arent vented so the overall thinkness is about 0.500 inches and im not sure that my calipers will open enough to fit the vented version

any info on the rear disk brakes and how to get them working properly would be much appreciated

so the first time I installed this shifter I was converting my lebaron GTS from an auto to a stick about six years ago so I thought that it was necessary to remove the whole console to do the conversion because I needed to hole saw the floor to run the shifter cables through the floor but that is best done from underneath the car so anyways I never tryed to remove the black cover over the shifter assembly.

so after a little looking around I see that its fairly easy to remove the cover so here you are.. these are much better pictures of the shifter installed
