No
If your 2 power sources and ground are good replace the relay.

i cant seem to find the ASD on any diagrams, is the starter relay something entirely different? its an 88 daytona TII, my ASD is on the inside of the engine bay right behind the battery. the manaul i have says it is in the car on the passenger side under the dash, does anyone know the best manual for a 1988 daytona the one i have is for older cars mostly it seems, and there were quite a few changes between 84 and 88 apparently. History: after i had someone set the timing for me i drove it home and changed the oil, then i drove to go get gas, and the next day it wont start and i hear the ASD clicking. before i bought the new one i took the old ASD apart and reattached it and when i touched the contacts i could hear fuel being pumped into the cylinders. i just need to know if anyone knows where the ground is for this or what other faulty electronics might be causing this to happen. in advice would be greatly appreciated.

The ASD relay is coil is grounded by the ECM to turn on the fuel pump, ignition coil and injector power. The other side of the relay coil should have a constant power source (with key on). Sounds like a wiring problem to me. Follow relay coil power wire and check for breaks or loose connections.

Locate the underhood diagnostic connector, with the key on/engine off ground the DB/YL wire, this will actuate the ASD relay and allow you to check the 2 power sources, ground and output.
One power source is constant battery
One power source is switched ignition
The controller controls the ground side of the relay
The DG/BK wire is the output to the fuel pump, + ign coil, fuel injectors and HO2S.
The ASD Relay is located on the L/S fender, it is the closest to the front of the car.
The relays in order from front to rear, ASD, A/C Clutch, Cooling Fan, Starter(on strut tower)

That is just the way I was trained, learn how the circuit/system operates then diagnosis becomes easier.
I do not expect everybody to do that, besides every bit of info posted by other members helps people to understand and you may explain it in a way that is easier to understand, so keep posting.

hmm...the only major ground i see in that circuit is the one on the fuel rail. when i put it back i put it on top of the fuel rail, should i have put it between the fuel rail and the intake manifold? or does that matter?

The ground for the ASD is Internal to the Controller. It is the DB/YL wire that runs from the ASD Relay Connector to the Diagnostic Connector and to the Controller 60 pin Connector Cavity #58.
The Engine/Body Grounds are - Battery to Engine Block, a Pigtail from - Battery to L/S fender that splits and runs to the Alternator and A/C, Heater Control.
There is a ground on the R/S Engine Mount and from the Fuel Rail to the Firewall.
What happened when you grounded the DB/YL wire in the Diag Conn. with the Key On/Engine Off?

i didnt get that far, but i checked all the major grounds again just to be double sure and guess what....the hole where the bolt for the ground on the fuel rail goes into the intake was stripped out, i went to loosen the bolt and it wasnt even tight so i tried to tighten it and it just kept spinning so i cut and lengthened the ground wire and put it on the other side of the rail, VOILA! i had a feeling it wasnt the relay, too bad i bought a new one for 17 bucks. oh and i copied all those images you put up and saved them in a file for my TD. thank you very much for all your input everyone

Man I wish I knew how to post circuit diag. like that. I was planning on taking a computer class this week but got my lay-off notice so I can't afford the class now.

Glad to hear it is fixed!!!!!
Posting images is not that hard, just need a 3 in 1 printer(Santa brought mine last year, HP $70.00), scan the image, it gets saved on the computer thru the software that was downloaded with the printer then download the image thru a site like "tinypics" and copy and paste thru the site(tinypics) to your TD post.
