Alright, so heres the deal. Got an 89 turbo mini that we mixed matched parts from an 89 Daytona 2.2t and a computer from a 2.5t car. caled to 14-21psi, 3 bar 52lb injectors no overboost 02. i used only the computer from the 2.5 car. from the 2.2 i used the mopar perf head, IM, 40+ injectors, 3 bar mapsetup and the garett turbo. Used the stock 2.5 block/pistons/rods etc. So here i sit w/ a mixmatched hybrid setup here, that runs.... but doesnt run well at all. Its obviously running very rich and idle is just horrible. it breaks up really bad when reving the engine under no load at aprx 8-10psi of boost, Timing has been zero'd out on the cam, and stock at the dist. It runs the same w/ both the stock computer and the caled 2.5 computer from the car. Any idea's on what might be causing the problem? Does this seem like a serious timing problem? or are these injectors just way too big? Im stumped!!! What did i do wrong here?

Have a race this sunday and would really like to rep the dodge world in a mini and spank some imported butt! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

First off im not sure how in the world you are able to get 8# of boost with no load sounds kind of scary to me but....

Second are you saying your running a stock 89 2.5 computer with a 3 bar map and 52# injectors ?

The 2.5 and 2.2 both have the same parts besides the computer and crank so I wouldn't call it mismatched or a hybrid at all

If you have a 2.5 bottom end, it's a 2.5 engine regardless of the head, but it's good to know it's ported and such though. The +40s will definately make the car run like crap at idle and low boost if you just throw them in there. You'd need to adjust the fuel pressure down a bit. That's probably most of the issue. If your timing is dead-on mechanically, make sure the distributor timing is at 12 degrees and you unplugged the CTS when you set it.

My first post was written pretty quickly, and i appologise for lack of other info. Although we missed the race , we would still like to complete this project. I really dont know a whole lot about the computers in these cars nor the cars themselves so bare with me please. We did finally figure out how to get it to run better, i figured out that the caled 89 2.5 lancer computer needed an IAT sensor (as the stock 89 van computer does not). So i threw a pin from an old ford computer conector into the the vans computer harness connector and grounded the sensor out, so that takes care of 1 problem. Its still "breaking up" under boost (or more than 30% throttle) due to the abundance of fuel im guessing and or fouled plugs (large ammounts of black smoke).

The computer is a caled 2.5 ecu from a lancer i believe. The info i wrote after that is what the ecu is calibrated for (14-21psi, 3 bar 52lb injectors no overboost 02)per the sticker on the chip . We are using the 3bar map in conjuction with THAT ecu. Now that the IAT is in and sending signal, the idle has smoothed out quite a bit.

As far as an FPR, we just used the one that came with the head, which was on a 2.2t daytona running a caled computer that was pretty much the same as the 2.5 caled computer mentioned above. The daytona (when the head/fpr/fuel injectors were on it) had no issues w/ idle or low boost running these injectors.

We will check and set timing today, add some new plugs as the old ones are now fouled and see what it does. I really do appreciate everyones info and thoughts about this. My brains on overload trying to fit in this much info in the matter of only a week.

As for the boost under load, i could not believe it myself... but yes it would hit 8psi on the guage when it ran well enough to rev a bit (open DP). More than enough to accuate the bov when the throttle was released.

Anything else i might want to check?

Thanks again

Update: Timing was dead on. It ended up being a faulty map sensor which was not working, and not throwing a code. After a swap the van ran great on 14psi, unfortunately the 150xxx mile plus bottom end could not hold it. Van was used for highway cleanup some years ago by the department of corrections, so we are wondering if the motor did alot of hot idleing on the side of the highway.

So, the winter build begins for our 12 second tow vehicle for our 8 second rx7.

Thanks for everyones help
