i am looking to buy a car and the people bought it off of a guy that worked for a towing company that towed it off of an apartment complex. he lost the title. they don't know the name of the owner that it is titled to. all they have is the state it was titled to. how can i get a title in my name.

If the car is old just go the state dept that deals with that and apply for a lost title in your name. For old cars alot of times they dont even check properly

every state is different. in most states, a towing company can get an abandoned vehicle title. but instead of asking a bunch of people world wide, why not go right to the source.. your state DOT

so? what difference does that make? to answer your question, contact your DOT office. DOT stands for Department Of Transportation they are the people that handle vehicle titles and registration. (aka DMV)

again, the towing company can usually easily obtain a title thru abandoment papers.

don't aske abunch of internet armchair quarterbacks like me to answer state specific legal questions. again, contact the government agency in your state responsible for titles/vehicle registration. then you will get the correct answer and no speculation.

we a car abondoned at our shop. no title, so the boss put a mechanics lean on it. 30 days later, the business got a title from the state and i bought it from the boss.
