84 Laser XE 2.2 T1 auto, sat 4 years with bad timing belt.

after replacing the timing belt and fuel lines, turbo oil line, and an injector
it ran fine. but would randomly die under load(holding brake in gear)
and then my friend was over and I was letting it warm up and suddenly it idled up to 2000rpm ran rough and the Power Limited lamp was on,
then the car died again.
so I checked the codes and it spit out too many for me to remember.

my 86 FSM shows

22 Coolant Temp sensor Circuit
23 Charge Temp Sensor Circuit
24 Throttle Position Sensor Circuit
32 ???
and I thought
42 Auto Shutdown Relay Driver Circuit

are the codes I got.

I only have a FSM for 86 it doesn't show a code 32

pulled the codes a 2nd time and i didn't get the 42

I'm going to check the voltages to the sensors and probaly swap out the ASD relay and go from there, but anyone have any ideas?

I don't really have time to mess with this car right now, but I'd like to make it run without sputtering out randomly so I can warm it up a few times over the winter.

Code 32 is "power loss lamp circuit"
There is no 23 for an 84.
You cannot swap out the ASD relay since it is integral to the power module.
Sounds like a wiring issue.
Always start with the lowest code # first.
Since you do not know if your CTS and TPS codes are voltage high or voltage low(only a scan tool will give you the description) with the key on backprobe the CTS connector with your voltmeter probes and read the voltage. Is it reading near 0 or 5 volts?

coolant sensor and air charge sensor only showing 3 volts.

would my 86 have the same pinout on the Power module?

so I can just look at my 86 FSM?

thanks for the info

Yeah who knows/ i got mine from the 84 fault code book that was at the dealership when I started working there. my 84 has also thrown a code 23 several times. It does it everytime and turns on the power loss light below 40 degrees.I just drive it a little then put some warm air from the turbo and turn off the switch and back on again.PL light goes out and no more till it cools off. I've put several ACTs in and they all do the same.I quit worrying about it !

has to be a missprint for no code 23 for 84 2.2 Turbo, since they all had a charge temp sensor and no other code covers the charge temp sensor except 23 that mine tosses out

I think I'm a little late to get the car up and going before the snow flies.

Discovered the problem today is a bad connection inside the computer on the red plug.
guess I'll take it apart and resolder the connections. Thanks for the info though, it helps

hopefully this will cure the problems I've been having with the car.
