Hi all, I have a 1989 Lebaron GTC vert. TII car with auto climate controle and I have never had heat in the car. The A/C works great, but the winter is comming and heat wouild be nice. Where do I start? How do I get heat? Is there a wireing diagram some where or a decription on how the system works?
Thanks

my car wouldn't blow cold ac with a proper charge ,i found it was the lever that moves the blend door ,it was broke of smooth with the box, so i couldnt do anything with it till i took it all the way out and replaced that blend air door, I wonder if yours is in the other position , if you reach up under the dash on the drivers side you can go between the heater box and the duck right there i stuck a bolt lengthwise to hold the blend door open yours should be shut on heat, i'm glad you posted this because now i remember i did this and know why mine doesnt blow heat. watch the door if your going to test it with it on ,watch all of that stuff its sharp and will bite you. the blend door will try to shut itself with the fan on ,the fan blows hard enough it WILL bite you. but its a temporary fix if thats the problem. you may need a wire bent with a hook to shut that door , i was pushing it open so it was fairly easy ,and my hands aren't tiny by any means so this isn't something you need to get billy the kid down the street to do

yeah there are a couple potential issues

make sure you are running a Tstat, otherwise the coolant will never really heat up

there should be a heater hose diverter valve which will bypass the heater core (when AC is selected); if thats not working - no heat (they get old and may stick open or closed, or the vac line may be off or leaking)

if your coolant level is low, the heater core is the first thing to get empty - no heat

under the dash - the HVAC box flapper door needs to be functional ; this means the HVAC needs to be getting vacuum and the lines need to be intact

lastly, the heater core can get clogged internally with calcium deposits and will have very little flow thru it ; U can remove the hoses and try to flush it out with a garden hose (seperate from the rest of the cooling system) ; very little flow thru it ? try pouring CLR into one hose until it comes out the other (wear gloves); let it sit over night; flush ; repeat as necessary... HTH

or dont drive that TII GTC in the winter !! "winter-beater" FTW !!

OK, I think I found the code, but does someone have a breakdown of the heater box? It looks to be a blend door activator.
Thanks
Ken
