Exactly what the subject says it's in an 85 Turbo Z with a 520... any ideas what the noise could be other than rod knock? it sounds like it, but it wasn't making it before the flywheel bolts sheared off so I'm at a loss

I had that type of noise at one point that I almost pulled the motor out. I endeup changing out just the Cam and DONE. No more noise. I have a 'Slider' Cam in the car and it was so badly worn out, I replaced it with an '88 TBI roller cam and the car is running GREAT!!

A loose spark plug can sound like rod knock, if it's loose enough it'll miss too.

My list of odd TD noises:

Loose alternator bracket can cause intermittant knocking.
Loose flywheel/clutch (usually from forgetting loctite)
Bolts holding tranny to block backing out
The above mentioned slider cam of death
Broken piston skirt
Bad lash adjusters (more of a loud tick than a knock) - also too thin of oil can make good ones do this as well.
Toasted rod bearring
Lastly (and my favorite) someone forgetting to torque down both rod bolts so that one nut falls off and the other does its best to keep things held togeter......
