I'm fitting an 520 into an 87 Horizon - I'm using two 88-90 automatic large spline axles.

When I bought new axles for my car, I put them in and all seemed well. It wasn't until last night that we actually figured out I bought small spline axles that just turn (and grind slightly, as the splines aren't meshed) in the trans. I'll be returning these and just getting a refund.

I have a new source for axles, cheaper too. I had them ordered today - but before I cough up the money I need to make sure these are the 88-90 auto large spline axles I'm looking for.

How do you tell the difference, can I count the splines? If so, how many splines do either of them have?

Thanks much, quick answers appreciated - I need to know shortly!

I did a similar swap 2 months ago and and it worked fine, but I pulled the shafts right out a an 88 Omni in the junkyard, so I was able to match them up right there. If you just match up what you have that you know is wrong to another set, you should see the difference right away.

I don't have any spare/old/used/broken 88-90 auto axles. I have nothing to compare it to. Finding these axles in j-yards around here is **** near impossible.

Even my small spline ones (that need to be returned) are still in the car and there is no way they are coming out by the time I need to know this.
