Okay I pulled the engine from my 1987 Shelby charger with only 62K on the clock. It had a knock that would get worse when I let off the gas going downhill. The head had been replaced 2K earlier due to a bad turbo. and I didn't think that was the problem, but it did sound very high in the engine.

I sold the head and turbo to a friend who later told me there was a fair amount of pitting to a couple of the cylinders and a dropped exhaust valve, I think (Brian if you are out there, you can clarify the issues with the head). So, I am thinking the knock might have been the head.

Anyway, I am planning on putting this block into another car, but don't want to put it in with bad rods. So, I am thinking about dropping in some 85 rods/pistons that I have here with new rod bearings, and rings. Anyone have any opinions? Thanks~~Heath

generally, from my experience, if it SOUNDS like a rod knock, it prolly is. As much as you want it to NOT be.

The best thing to do is drop the pan and see. If it is, then you'll know. If it's NOT, then you'll just have to reseal the pan.
