Aftermarket CD player

I have put an aftermarket CD player in my 89 Daytona Shelby and I'm having problems. I used a wiring connector made for this application, but it doesnt seem to do the job. The wiring connector was bought at Autozone and is a generic one.

My problem is this:

Everything hooked up fine (the plugs mated fine) and the speaker wires matched fine. However, the power is screwed. The constant power seems to not be constant power. The only way I can get the constant power and the switchable power to work is to hook them all together. Then it works when it wants to - cutting out with only the lights on the CD player working. I went to crank my car this morning and it was dead - no doubt the result of the bad wiring.

Did anyone else fight this problem? Is the aftermarket wiring connectors marked wrong for the power supplies? Any suggestions would help.

is this adapter used to take the factory plugs and adapt them to the one included with your deck?
If it is, don't use it (especially if it is giving you that kind of grief)
Wiring up a cd-player in your car is a snap, and i can give a very simple step by step if you don't trust yourself to do it.

Yellow should be constant.
If you have any spare 12V bulbs, you can use them as a tester.
