I need some help here.
My power steering is leaking really bad. It is coming out of the little rubber boot on the top of the gear box where the steering column goes in.

First, I am assumeing that there is some seal under the boot that is leaking and not the boot itself. Am I right?

What would be the best way to fix this? Is there a rebuild kit for it? Or just replace the whole thing?

Either way I believe I am going to have to remove the k-member and rack, right?

Thanks for any help,
Bobby

Just replace the whole rack. Rebuilding it is always an optin as they sell rebouild kits, which include all the seals, but it might still leak. The only way to insure it doesnt leak again, is to just replace the unit with another.

Good Luck

I had a leak there as well, and it was filling my driver's side floor pan with pwr steering fluid under the floor mat.....I ended up tossing the pwr steering anyways...but if you need a quick fix, try Lucas Pwr Steering STo Leak. I am normally not an advocate of "mouse milk" additives, but If your rack is already toast, what do you have to loose? That was my attitude in my work van (1990 Maxivan with 440,000 kms) so I tried it. I was loosing about 1 quart evey 5-7 days, so I waitind till it ran dry, added 1 full quart of Lucas, that was back in the spring time-I have not added anything since, and I drive it daily for work. Really great product IMHO.

Thanks for the quick replys..

Where could I get a new rack at a resonable price? Or would a used one work...but that might develope a leak.. although it started leaking really bad after the lady across the street backed into my parked car..
