the shifter is getting annoying, sometimes it gets stuck when trying to put it into first or second, and the problem is the reverse lock thingie (really technical term, i know). If I pull up on the thingie, i can move it over far enough to easily put it in first and second, is there any way to permanantly have it fixed in the up position, or (preffered) remove the mechanism easily? If it involves taking the console off and getting under the boot, I'd rather use duct tape, but I'd preffer not to make it look like that.

other suggestions would be helpful

Sounds like you just need to adjust the cables.
