89 Lebaron Turbo wont start

Ok,need some advice. I have a 89 Lebaron Turbo that will not start. Cranks but no fire. I have replaced the HEP thinking that was the issue but didnt work.

When I ground the controller wire in diagnostic connector the fuel pump kicks on and I have power at the + side of coil. It still will not start under these conditions. If I dont ground the controller wire I have nothing. Any ideas??

You verified the ASD Relay circuit is fine by grounding the diag connector and verifing power to the + coil, injectors and fuel pump.

There is more to the HEP circuit than just the HEP itself.
While cranking the engine check for power at the + coil.
Is power present cranking???

With the ASD grounded and engine cranking there is no power at the coil.

When you installed your new HEP did you place any sharp bends in the wiring like the factory had it?
If so you may have damaged the internal wiring.
I did this years ago and the HEP failed at the bank one week later.
Since then I actually re-enforced the wireng where it lays on and exits the distributor and the looped the wiring around to the main harness.
The wiring is wrapped in split loom and secured to the main harness.

Correct still no power at coil while cranking or with just key on. Fuel pump does not kick on either. There are no bends in the new HEP wires.

No power to the + coil while cranking indicates a HEP issue.
The controller is not seeing a crank signal so the ASD is not being actuated.

Diagnostics are being sent to you thru PM.

On another note...
Did you verify the distributor is actually turning and the shutter wheel is still securely attached?

I have not done that yet. The car is cherry! 1 owner with 30K miles. Sat for awhile and the battery went dead. Ill have to check the other things later today.

After following all the steps it appears I have a bad Logic Board in the SMEC.

Where is the best place to purchase a SMEC??

Before condemning the controller be sure the terminal is not broken in the connector housing, the terminal is securely locked and not pushing out and the terminal is not spread causing poor contact with the controller terminal.

I am fixing this for the original owner. The car looks like it came off the show room floor. Has 30K miles. They are thinking about selling the car. What are these cars worth?? Convertible top is perfect,car has no flaws.

The connector is not broke and all terminals look fine. Just dosent make any sense. They said the car sat for about 3 months and when the tried to start it nothing. Yes the battery is fully charged also..

Also just pulled the SMEC out and it smells burnt. The 14 pin connector has what i am guessing dialectic grease from the factory the is brown and guey.
