Stalling... Help!!

I would definitely say it's not your alternator. You need to check for codes. Your problem could be a speed sensor issue, since you have a cable speedo, you wouldn't see a problem there. As for the tach, most likely need to take the cluster out and re-flow the solder on the tach circuit board.

Are you sure your speedo isn't working because of the speedo itself? Your '86 model should have a cable driven speedo(unless it has a digital dash). The cable could have broke, or could even be unhooked either at the speedo, or at the speed sensor on the trans. I usually don't hear of too many speedo failures, mostly tach and trip/odometer failures.

No idea if it's different than my 85 shelby charger, but of it's similar, I doubt a bad speedo sensor will cause your 86 turbo z to stall. I ran a good 500miles after my speedo gear fell out of my transmission! (accidently) haha.

The speedo dose not work.thinking it mite be my EGR .clearly says in haynes manual that. "Symptoms of problems associated with the EGR system are rough idling or stalling when at idle,rough engine performance during light throttle application and stalling during deceleration"

First verify that there is no Code 15 in memory, if so the controller is not seeing a speed signal and will not set the AIS for decel causing your stalling issue on decel.
If there is a Code 15 correct that issue first.
If there is no Code 15....

Clean the throttle plate, AIS and AIS bore and check base idle.

This is for the later models but the AIS reset and base idle are the same.
