Is this VIN really an 87 Shelby Charger GLHS?

Found this car on eBay:

The seller claims it to be a GLHS but I notice the car has no sunroof. I thought all GLHS cars in 87 had a sunroof. Can a site member confirm this VIN is a Shelby 87 GLHS?

If you look close you can see a GLHS steering wheel, what looks like a koni strut on the front. Someone may have added the rear louvers and its probably had a repaint or never was a GLHS since many of the tell-tale Shelby stripes are not present.

You could take the VIN# to a Chrysler Dealer, Parts Department. I did that with a car I bought and they printed up the entire history of the car and the first thing it had was the, of course, VIN and what specific model it was and all that it had from when it was shipped from the factory. Also, the dealer here whenever I go to order a part, asks for the VIN to double-check that he is ordering the correct part.

In 87 the rear louver option became standard. However, a sunroof became standard as well.

The VIN number does translate into a Shelby Charger because of the 6 designation meaning its "Special."

I think this is a clone.

The vin reads as a dodge shelby charger, but I would think that all GLHS would, since they were shipped out to shelby as cars rather than actually built by him.

But the lack of a sunroof points to it being a clone I think. I read they all had sunroofs too.

The best way to tell is to ask for pictures of the Vin numbers, the fender tag, the door, and the Vin plate on the dash.

Shelby Charger and Charger GLHS VINs are the same, so you're not going to have a lot of luck if it is a Shelby redone as a GLHS.

From the pictures, my money is on it being the real thing and in need of some serious love.

According to allpar.com all GLHS chargers had the sun roof. So my money is on it being a clone.

In retrospect, I'd have to go with a rebody... but it was done sometime in the late eighties or early nineties.

After looking closer at the pictures it does have a sun roof you have to zoom into the picture and you can see the outline. So maybe it is a GLHS. I guess the only way to really know is by checking the VIN.
