Tranny/Clutch problem?

When I put the car in 1st gear and try to drive off, it feels like I'm in 3rd. Very bogged down, almost stalls, doesn't feel right. I tried 2nd gear just in case, feels even boggier. Drove back home (less than 1 block), smells like something was burning. But shift into reverse, it works totally normal. Car was working fine the night before and for the 2 months before that. The clutch was replaced and the tranny was rebuilt in the last ~3 years, without alot of miles put on since.

The only thing I checked was to see if a brake was stuck on, put they seemed ok....

I'd say check your shifter bushings that are on the ends of you shift cables first.

You mean the ones under the stick shift? I replaced those with poly bushings a few years ago, but it's not hard to check....

Or are there bushings on the transmission itself?

There are ones on each end of the cables, under the shifter, and at the trans levers. May also want to check that both of the adjustments on the shifter end of the cable haven't come loose. I've had a car that wouldn't go into 5th, and found out the cable bracket at the trans had come loose. Last thing I can think of is the lever that's on top of the trans controls the side to side movement, and the lever will come loose. It's held on by a roll pin, and when it gets too loose, you drill the lever and the shaft out to the next size roll pin.

Have someone move the shifter thru the gears and watch the cables at the trans end.
