Hey all...
I have dug through the forums before bugging you all...
Just picked up a 90 Shelby 2.5 T1 Auto. Supposedly 76k miles.... not a chance. Put 600 miles on it since I got it. Ran ok for the most part until 2 nights ago. After that started getting worse. Would only run right at higher RPMs.

Would run rough at idle. Boost gauge would flutter between 10 and 3 psi when barely on the peddle. Figured vac leak.
Today, on the way to Advanced, she stalled.
Got her towed, and rebuilt all the vacuum lines. Figured why go through this again.

Current issue:
Crank, will start with starting fluid, but will die quickly. Without it, if I manage to start her, she will run for a second, then die. If she manages to stay running, the engine violently shakes unless I keep moving the throttle, then she just shakes less, before eventually dying.

Checked:
Pulled feed line, fuel popped out. Would not spray when I turn the key on.
Checked vac lines, all clear.
Injectors firing (since she will run intermittently).
Cant check timing since she wont run long enough. But distributor has not moved.
Fuel filter appears to be very new. Best guess is within 6 months by the lack of corrosion on the housing and the clamps.
Going to pull the plugs next and do a visual, but wanted to throw this up there to get some minds clicking on it.

Thanks to all in advance....

Update:
Spark plugs clean. No fouling.
No codes.
I have exhausted my diagnostic ideas...
Anyone?

Time to get a fuel pressure gauge. Assuming you have good fuel pressure, the pickup inside the distributor is notorious for failing.

Thanks for responding.
Update...
Checked the feed line again. Found pressure to it (but not spraying when the key is on) since it burped when I removed it. I can hear the fuel pump whining when the key is on and the engine is cranking.
pulled cap and rotor off, found crushed wires (with exposed wire) to hall sensor. Since I cant get one until wednesday, I repaired the wired by cutting out crush and splicing.
Going to get a new cap (since this one needed to be broken off since the previous owner's "mechanic" put lock tite or something there. Needed an extractor to remove the screw, and cracked the housing to get the tool to mount the screw. Ironically... the other one was loose.

Update. Repaired the wires to the white plug of the sensor, but no guarantee they will work. Ordered one. Pep Boys had them... $48 bucks. Will arrive in the morning. Changed cap and rotor. Plugs tomorrow since I cant find my gapper...lol
It will run as long as I am pumping starter fluid into the Throttle Body. So it seems to definitely be a fuel problem.
How can I tell if the regulator is faulty besides fuel dripping out when I remove the vac line (which there is no fuel present... but the smell of it)?
Also, anyone know where the ASD relay is? Only reason I am considering it for the culpret is that I seem to lose the sound of the fuel pump when cranking.... but cant be sure.
Fun Fun Fun...

Where in N.J. are you?

You need to connect a fuel pressure gauge to verify fuel pressure.

I'm in Morganville. Its right between Old Bridge and Marlboro. On the way to pick up the new hall sensor. And going to get a fuel pressure testor there add well. Will check out the links when I get back. Thank you for them. Very much.
Off work today, so going to be under the hood most of it.

Update...
Installed hall sensor.
Fuel pressure gauge hooked to rail. 0 Zero None at all pressure.
Going to change the fuel filter (since at this point it should be the filter or pump) and I have no idea what kind of gas this guy was running... but I use Shell 93 with Ethanol Defense from Bell Performance (and definitely Have seen a mpg gain).

With a dieing fuel pump, gas mileage would improve, as it struggles to keep the fuel pressure up. ;)

Interesting concept. yet another reason I love this place..... the wealth of knowledge floating around.
Tomorrow I change the fuel filter. I went through the flow chart (thank you NAJ) and that is where I am at... Lets hope it is that and not the pump.

ok... fuel filter in. Still crank no start. If I let it sit, it seems to want to turn, and will cough once or twice. But that is it.
Fuel gauge says there is a quarter of a tank.... I am going to dump a gallon in and see what turns up. if it is out of gas... I am going to laugh myself drunk with stupidity...lol

Woohoo.... got fuel pressure. Reading 52psi.
Is that Just not enough to keep it running? It tries to fire up, lasts about a moment, then dies.
Could it be.... that dumping fuel into the tank (poured a gallon down there) moved stuff around and declogged the filter sock? Before I put the gas in, even with the new filter, there was only 2psi.
Since I have no way to do this, tomorrow, I am bringing it to school (yes... my old self is back in college for Automotive Engineering) and throwing it on a lift (all hail roadside assistance...lol).
Any suggestions for a new fuel pump output? If I am going to change it... I am going to put the right one in.
Future mods will be whatever it takes to get me into the low 13s high 12s.
But for the next year or so.... +20 injectors, a mild cam, stage 2 computer (from FWD), and an upgraded ignition (already in work.... MSD blaster2 coil installed, and ordered low impedance 8mm wires).

FWD Performance...
Use a Walbro 255.

If you are using an MSD coil be sure to add a .7 ohm ballast resistor.
Chrysler primary coil specs are 1.4 ohms and the MSD is only .7 ohms.
The Accel 8140M coil is made for Chrysler and is 1.4 ohms.

You don't have to drop the tank to change the pump.
