Hi all,

So...................

Long time Merkur guy here in Seattle. Just picked up an 88 XR4ti in Spokane that has SMEC.

Looking for a little help on spark plug wires. Need to make a custom set and get the "blade" style terminal ends that go into the Dodge Distributor.

Also would love to meet up with anyone in the Northwest that has knowledge of D-Cal to help me tune the car.

Thank you!

He can make you custom wires.
MSD Products

D-cal is no longer in style.

People that tunes their own car have moved on to MPtune V2.
MPTuner

Bin files you'll need.
Turbonator SMEC codebase

You'll need to get your SMEC socketed, get a chip extender cable, and a ortisch for real time tuning. You'll also need a wideband sensor installed.

If you're going to do it yourself, I suggest you have more than 1 core to play with.

Oh, and welcome.

You sir, are the friggin man. Thank you very much!

I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions along the way. Hope you guys dont mind me sticking around as I know I'm a pilgrim in a unholy land with the Merkur right? :)

I picked the car up from Justin in Spokane. Anyone know of it? It's a red one.

Bob Bondurant Suspension, Konit yellows all the way around.

I'll get some pics up once I hit 5 posts!

Cheers

Lol, who'd you buy it off of? I'm the one that convinced them to convert to SMEC :)

? yur 2.3 has been converted to run TD electrics ?

OMG.. mebbe convert back to Ford ?

I have a 86 XR7 ..

The ford electronics suck balls. All my merkur buddies were jealous we could tune our ECU's. So they figured out how to get the distributor to work on their cars and away they went. Soon as you convert them over to Mopar electronics they sound like a TD. Oh and they run better. And if you blow a i/c hose the car doesn't shut down.

Hey, was just noticing my car does not appear to have a charge temp sensor. It's pin #21 in the 60 pin harness plug correct? The sensor is the same as the coolant correct? If so can I run a wire to the harness and put the sensor in between the intercooler and the throttle body?

Also, this thing has a 70MM Chevy truck throttle body on it. The TPS is readed 2.61volts at idle. Now I know a stock 2.3 Ford like the TPS at about
.94 volts. I cant turn it down any lower with this thorttle body. Does SMEC compensate for that?

FYI-I admit I'm a total newb at Fuel injection and computers. I've been a V-8 Carburated guy my whole life, however my love of the Merkur/Sierra vehicles has sucked me into it.

Thanks again for the help gents!

Something is up, the voltage shouldn't be that high, sure you're reading the right wire? Should be down around 1 at idle, WOT is anything above 3.5v IIRC

That's Jason Richardsons' old car, I suspect. He was around here for a long time before he gave up and moved on. Yes, he converted his Merkur to SMEC electronics...

Oh, and 99% change it has a flashable SMEC. Jason made the first of the 'easy' to install flash modules that I now make a copy of.

Nope, it's not Jason's old car. A friend of Jasons though. I haven't met Justin from what I remember but I have heard stories about the Merkur outrunning the cops here in town.

Jason lives in Seattle now. Still has his Merkur but has since gone to Megasquirt on it as he kept frying the power module or something in the SMEC. I don't know how. I'm running his SMEC in my car and have had zero issues with it.
