Have you decided it is timing, or are you open to possibly a vacuum or intake leak. You say it ran fine, until suddenly the rpm went up, correct?

You mentioned the distributer, do you suspect it may have been loose all along or maybe worked loose, then turned, thereby advancing your timing-hence the rise in rpm?
Mark your didtributers location with a marker or a small scratch, then see if you can rotate it by hand. If it is loose, you may be onto the problem.

Did that have anything to do with the problem then? 2800 rpm is a lot for an out of time distributer to be responsible for.
Also, can you verify that your throttle plate is in fact closed all the way when the car is not running, and when it is.

John.

illl check the plate in the morning, no before it idled lil over 1k so i moved the distributor and set it right under 1k then all the sudden tonight seems either like its idle n at 2800 or throttle is stuck its dark out and i dont have a flashlight or tools to get to right now i can pull the cover off the throttle bodie, another question since i removed the stock airbox and ut a air filter cone on for now that ill use once i do the t2 conversion for my turbo, the hose that went into the box is just sitting their suckin in air should i let it or block it off

You have a vacuum leak! You need to trace all your vacuum lines carefully. If this comes up empty, get some needle nose pliers and pinch off the booster line-if the idle drops, your booster is junk. If not, keep searching. Of course, make sure your throttle is closed.

Changing your timing won't make the idle go to 2800 rpm.

I hear ya sup3rfr3ak man, if I know St. Louis, it's not only dark, but rainy as hell. Tomorrow is another day, you'll get it solved.

Let us know.
