Which alternator is better for the 89 2.5? Would it be the Bosch or the Denso? My van has the old Denso on it now. I have a gift card for Pepboys, so I went to check the units out. The Bosch looked brand new and the Denso was bigger than my old one and looked like it was put together with old parts. They were both rebuilt units. The positive connection for the Bosch was in a different spot. Would the positive harnes bend and connect to the Bosch?

Thanks Alot

Lots to think about here. If they were both the same amp and appeared to be in the same condition I would take the Denso. I have seen them last forever. The problem here is they are both reman units. The reman industry sucks. They take alternators and starters that lasted 10 years and 100,000 miles and rebuild them to break in 2 years or 10,000 miles. I just had a Chevy at work that the 1 year old (reman) alternator went bad Napa sent me 3 remans that week one of them made it out the door (had to tow it in the next morning) They were telling me I missed something. I know I didn't. I beat myself up with those thoughts myself before they said it. Got a reman from GM its been on it now for 2 months so far.

Whats wrong with the Denso on the car? If it works fine I would stay with the old one as long as possible. If its having issues check the dealer prices on a reman (theres should have OEM parts) That Chevy alt from the dealer was 20 bucks more then Napa.

I like the Denso's cause they clear the larger mustang oil filter. I dont think the bosch does... at least it hasnt in my experience.

With the one I have, sometimes it stops charging when on long trips. If I let of the gas, sometimes the volts go back to normal.

Thanks

When I looked at both alternators, the bosch looked smaller. It may have been a newer version with black trim.

Thanks

Also I took the Denso apart and the brushes were worn in half. And the contact for 1 of the brushes is worn down also.

tough call I don't like reman but new is more money. What oil filter do you use since a previous post said the denso clears a bigger filter. How about checking on getting parts for the one you have open. Reman it your self for less.

The new Bosch is the same size and look as the Denso I have now. I am using the small stock size filter. I was getting some tapping when using the bigger filter. Not sure how much it would cost for new parts. Where could I check for rebuild kits?

Your in Delaware there should be rebuilders around. Do you get up to Philly any. When I lived there there were quite a few places there that rebuilt alternators. Some of them would sell just the parts too. There was one place in Northeast Philly named Steins. They build an excellant alternator. They should also sell parts. I have been gone from there for 3 years now but I don't think they would have shut down.
Here found there number. I don't know if they would ship never had to do that living in the city.

Denso hands down. If a new one is only $40 more, get that.

Just put some parts in the Denso.

The only thing that ever seems to go is the brushes.

I have them in stock and ready to go. (The brushes)

Just shoot me a PM if you want to put the brushes in.

Bosch Makes a new denso alternator (90 and 120 amp), have them look up a '90 daytona and they should be able to find it. It's been working good for me!

Dan

I used the 120 BTW
