I got the rebuilt CSX timed correctly today and took her out for a spin to break the new motor in. I turned left and hit boost in 1st gear and smoke was pouring out of the engine bay, I didn't have the hood on yet, so I could see it right away. I pulled over and when the smoke cleared, there was oil puddles on the intake manifold, and it was dripping freely all over the turbo and downpipe.

Luckily I wasn't too far away and limped it back to the garage.

I'm guessing it's leaking from rear of the valve cover? Is this common? I sealed it up and torqued it too spec, no oil on the front side of the motor at all.

Seems like a lot of oil for a gasket leak.

Other than that the car runs pretty good, except for wanting to die at the red lights.

Just looking for some input before I start tearing it apart again.

Thanks,
Wade

Check the power steering bolts, I believe that some of them may go in to oil passages and a missing/loose bolt could make quite a mess.

I'll double check the P/S bolts, but there's not really any oil on that side (except for what has dripped off the manifold). My buddy said he is having the same issue, although not as extreme, on his 90 minivan.

I'll pull the valve cover off and have a look see I guess. I hope it's just a bad gasket seal issue and not some sort of warpage.

also you may want to check the pcv system as well. make sure you do not have a blockage that could cause pressure and blown gasket. i have tryed gaskets before on the v.cover with not much luck. i always use the end seals and just ultra black rtv on the frt and back of the valve cover, i have not had any leaks doing it that way. hope you get it going!

Now I just need to track down this coolant leak.

Thanks for the help.

LMAO! OK, so you know that little baffle in the VC that covers the outlet to the PCV stuff? Y'know how there's these 2 little bolts that help hold it to the VC? Yeah, well I took those out when I sanded and painted the VC, and spaced out putting them back in. Hence: "Oil Everywhere!" LOL!
