so my 85 lebaron tb1 has started smoking and burning a lot of oil recently when it is in any position other than neutral or park. when i disconnect the vacuum side of the pcv valve there is no smoke.

now i am lost, im not sure where the vacuum side goes, looks like part of the turbo.

i searched and cant find a similar problem

help please.

Replace the PCV valve, sounds like it's stuck open.

On the old 2.2 turbos, the hose off the PCV goes to the intake manfold and the hose off the metal elbow goes to the airbox.

thanks for the reply. i replaced the pcv valve and it still smokes like crazy in any drive gear.

i guess its the valve seal? thats the only thing i can think of now.

i also check the pcv valve hoses and there were no obstructions. there was a minor crack in the boot that the pcv valve plugs into.

Could be the turbo. Block off the oil feed line at the front of the engine and keep the turbo from spinning (a helper with vice-grip pliers on the compressor nut) and see if the smoke stops.

so, i couldnt find anyone to help me with the vice grips. i just replaced the valve cover gasket with no success (unless i totally botched it, which i dont suspect). i guess i will check the turbo seals next.

valve stem seals being bad will cause smoke when you first fire the car up but mostly go away once it runs a while. i would check the turbo and see if that is why it is smoking. did you have a good amount of oil where the hose goes to the airbox? if so it could also be blow by causing your smoking. i had a turbo go and it smoked so bad you could no see anything behind the car from all the smoke.

when i start up and let it run there is no smoke until i put it in drive or reverse. after that it will start smoking a lot. then it when i put it in park or neutral. i am going to check the turbo like Stevien1 mentioned. say the smokes stops, does that mean i need a new turbo or the seals are just bad?

edit: and there wasnt any oil in my airbox or in the hoses to my airbox. thanks.
