Well I'm about to pick up a daytona for its engine. I plan on rebuilding it and putting it in my spirit to replace the 3.0 v6 it has. Anyhow, the car is t2 oringinally, intercooled etc, but from what the seller is telling me, the engine was replaced a while ago. Now he seems to think the engine replacment was also a t2, but is there any way I can verify this without pulling the basepan off? I don't want to buy it and find it doesn't have forged crank etc. They said it came out of the same type of car, but most woulnd't recognize the diff between a t1 and t2 longblock if they weren't up on the differences etc. I suppose it's possible they have the original head put on a different block, not sure, but I just want to identify the bottom end.

Oh, the valve cover and intake are silver, not black.

on the drivers side of the block just below the cylinder head. it's difficult to see it with all the oil and coolant feed lines running over them.

tell us more about this car. what year is it?

if it was replaced with a common block TII, it will have a one-piece intake, a 87 would have the 2-piece and be a non-commonblock. to determine commonblock or not, look below the oil filter a little to the side for a block-off plate, if its there its a non-commonblock, if nothing is there, its an 89 or better TII. also mistubishi turbos are easy to ID if it had one or if the car has a roller cam head, pull the cover an look in, an 87 won't i believe
