Hi Guys

I was dropping the crunched oil pan from my 87 Daytona Shelby Z TII and
noticed that it is not flat bottomed like all the other turbo pans I have seen.

It has a bulge on the bottom to accomodate the sump of the oil pump pick up.

What years were like this?

Can the pick up be put on the pump with a flat bottomed pan off another engine?

Or does the oil pump/pick up have to be changed as a unit?

Is this a high volume oil puimp or what gives here?

Thanks Earle

all the T2 cars had this deep sump pan. Some 88 T1 2.2's had them as well.

Does it look like this one?

I also had an 87 shelbyZ that I bought pulled the motor and it had weird pan. Well guess what if really does have that pan check the casting date you may have a common block.

Those "teardrop pans" Came on the 87-88 TII motors only I think. I always used to put the bigger flat bottom pans on mine when I was into the TIIs. Either one will work as long as it is a non commonblock oil pan. But,if you use the flat one make sure you put some extra oil in it.

Speedyshelbys pan looks like an 89 TII pan which is pretty close to the one you probably have but if is the stock motor for a Shelby Z it isnt a commonblock pan.

YES that's it. But my one bumped into a tree stump.

Can the oil pump pickup be switched over along with the "Flat" oil pan?

Or does the oiol pump have to be switched too?

I remember using the stock TII pickup with the flat pan. Mock it up with some putty or something to see how close the pickup is to the bottom of the flat pan

NOPE...before I even noticed the bulge I put the flat pan in location and
noticed it would not go up all the way...pickup bumped into the pan.

I've seen them on 88 T1 motors too. Find a non-commonblock deep sump pan, they're much better. That flat bottom pan lets the oil slide all over the place.

as long as your motor does not have balance shafts you will not have the flat bottomed pan.

My '86 T1 is not an engine with balance shafts and it has a flat bottom pan.

He's referring to the CB motors. The early motors had flat pans until the 87 T2 came out. In 88 I've seen them on both the T2 and the T1 blocks.

Did the 88 TII have the baffle/windage tray in the oil pan?

No baffle or windage on any TII/TI oil pan.
