I get horrible gas mileage in my Duster. But that might be because I have a very difficult time keeping the boost gauge below "0".

I Know people probobly wont believe me but i have been getting somwhere around 40 mpg in my modded 89 daytona shelby.
Drove the car for the last year it only got about 20 on average then my tps sensor finally got bad enough to notice it and so i replaced it and im still in disbelief every time i drive it.
it does surge a little at cruise speed from the low fuel pressure im running but I feel great knowing im sticking it to the gas companys !

"Those minivan MPG figures I'd consider to be absolutely phenomenal. A friend of mine migrates to texas, and got something like 28 mpg with their '02 Chrysler minivan on the way there. Thats awesome. But realize that it has much more efficient engine management under the hood. More efficient engine in general."

Yea true, AND overdrive! ...keeping things in the vacuum range is good(no boost) ($2.87 gallon here in NH)

In my '88 Shelby Z I've been getting around 26 in the city(mostly short trips too) and on the highway I know it's above 30...just have never had it on a long enough trip to find out. These are calculated numbers. The odo on the dash doesn't work, but the trip computer's does. Going by that milage and the amound of fuel I put in that's how I do the math. I always go to the same gas station and try to fill it about the same way too.

If I go by the trip computer's calcualtions I've been getting about 31 in the city...no idea on the highway, but it consistantly will read about 44-48 if I'm crusing about 70.

The only things done to the car are 255 pump, synthetic oil, sythetic tranny fluid. I shift about 1500-2000 around town and don't go in to boost much, if at all.

Don't get me wrong, I still have fun in the car, I just don't like spending a lot of time at the gas pump(especially at around 3.15-3.50 for premium).

BTW, my van when I had it running years ago was getting about 22mpg in the city. That was a 2.5/auto stock turbo, intercooled, slightly worked head, forged pistons, no balace shafts.

My 91 Spirit ES Turbo 5-speed, gets around 26 in the city and 28 on the highway. That car has a T3/T4 50 trim turbo, with a ported intake, exhust manifold. I also had an 92 Spirit ES Turbo auto and that car got 29 in the city. That lockup torque converter really helped.

1989 tbi auto horizon getting 26 or so mostly highway and a little city.

will i get better mileage (keeping my foot out of it) with a 2.5 t1 and 5-speed? i sure think so, and i can put taller gears in cause the cars so light. im thinking with the overdrive in the 5 speed and the torque from the 2.5, out of boost driving highway, this combo should get great mileage and be quick

Exactly the extra torque of the 2.5 with overdrive and the more precise fuel injection from the turbo application really helps efficiency.
another thing i think that makes a big difference is the the .63 exhaust housing, I have a daytona with the bigger housing and a minivan with it also and both responded with better fuel milage both vehicles having equal free flowing exhaust (2 1/2").
Im going to put all my goodies into a slightly lighter vehicle and add the 3.5 final drive from an a520 also and im just wondering how good the milage can get.
honestly im breaking in a new clutch right now but Have held the throttle down hard 4-5 times for 5 to 6 second bursts to 60 mph so im not purposely trying to get the best milage i possibly can ( its hard to resist when theres a new charger with a hemi lined up next to you at a light and he hammers the throttle all my gas milage thoughts seem to slip away as i see him fade in the rearview)

Is 2.87 a gallon considered expensive? I'm 30 minutes north of Minnesota in Canada and I pay 4.05 a gallon for regualar and $4.46 for premium. I'd love 2.87 a gallon prices.

My '85 LeBaron T1 with the A413 gets 24 MPG on average (combined city/freeway). And that's with a 3.22 final drive ratio. Stock except MP computer, 803 injectors, AFPR, adjustable cam sprocket, and 2.5" SV + 3" exhaust. I'm working in lowering the fuel pressure for more MPG and will get a RRR from Cartech to support 16# boost. Also looking at adjusting the cam timing for more MPG as well. Premium is $3.42 here in Idaho.

Yes, $2.82 is expensinve for gas! It wasn't but a few years ago that we were still below $2/gal. IMHO we should STILL be there! Prices in Europe haven't skyrocketed as much if at all compared to ours, yet we all of a sudden have to pay more?! WTF? That's some major BS. Maybe Europe has been getting reamed all those years, but we weren't and now we are! It sucks. Should the price of fuel increase? Yes, but it should do it in accordance with inflation like everything else. I understand supplu/demand, but you can't tell me that the price of gas can jump 20-50cents in a DAY and then not come back down. THAT is BS! It's called oil companies lining their pockets as well as the politians who support them.

Our prices out here shot up from $2.25 to $3.65 in a week I would say thats not right at all and where is our leadership ? The gas companys are hurting themselves they will have to sell there overpriced product in china in the next few years as our country now has been given a reason to develop new technology

The unfortunate thing is that the government has latched on to a technology that IMHO is NOT a good solution! Ethonol based fuels STILL require fossil fuels to make, they deliver LESS energy per volume of fuel, the vehicles get far worse fuel milage using ethonol fuels, they are hard to transport and store, they are as hazardous, if not more so that gasoline, the supply for it isn't great, and it's NOT universal for gasoline pwered IC engines!

Boats in particular are going to have a VERY hard time with tese fuels as they attack fiberglass fuel tanks(which a lot of them have) and standard fuel systems CAN NOT handle ethonol.

This is a BAD move on the gonvernment's part, but they are looking for something that looks like a "win/win" to people who don't do the research or care. We NEED a true alternative way of powering automobiles, trucks, trains, ect.

While I like NASA, I like space exploration and all that good stuff, why can't we use some of that technology, knowhow, and expertise to come up with a viable technology. Spend a little time and money on soemthing more worthwile and a fake and transparent solution and maybe we can get ahead of the game again!

did you miss this thread?
E85
Flawed or not, E85 is better than nothing. Ethanol is much nicer than the methanol that was tried way back when. I look at E85 as more of a crutch than an end all be all solution. Also, when compression spark and fuel curves are modified, you can get nearly the same mileage from E85 as you do with standard gasoline.

The main problem I have with it is that it puts our energy needs in direct competition with our food sources.

I got 26mpg in my van before and after mods. Now that I can tune, I'm hoping to crest 30, 35 would be awesome.
