Reman heads are a good idea sometimes because they have been heat cycled so they so potential for not cracking.

If I was going to go with a rebuild, I'd much rather get an un-cracked core and have it rebuilt here locally. I have a pretty damn good machinist at my disposal, and he's honest to boot. I've seen too many re-man cylinder heads that should have been melted down into Pepsi cans, instead of being re-used.

I'll have to check that out, thanks. I wonder do they use the same base head as the one in the auction I first listed?

it seems that if a race head was wanted than a new uncracked head would be the way to go, that way from the start it could be done right.

Thats what i did got a new one. put 1mm over sized valves and ported. I love knowing i have no ploblems to exspect, even if you are not suppost to worry with a cracked one. like you said if you put $$$ in it, it is nice to know its not cracked. I got about $2500 in my head and there is no way i would put that in a cracked head. I had a head crack before this head wiped out my bearings and cam cause water got in the oil.

Go to the junkyard and get yourself a Mexican casting head. I pulled both of these heads from junkyard cars and no cracks anywhere.

Port/polished, bowls reworked, over size (1mm) valves, port matched to in/ex, only have a f1 cam for now, performance springs, harden keepers, and milled down.

For what you describe $2500 is more than that work is worth IMHO. I had a head redone with the following.

Custom port work for flow and fuel atomization.(included both the intake and exhaust port matching.
Intake ported to match head with added flow considerations in the intake
Exhaust ported to match head with added flow considerations
Custom work on the valves
New valve guides and seals
Custom CC work to improve combustion and flow
Roller Cam
Milled head surface

My cost was half of what you paid.

Was there more done to the head you had done than you mention cause if not I think that's a bit high.
