I've asked this once before, I can't remember what the thread was. I'm tired of having troubles with my high ks V6. The black car[the one in the Turbododge banner] is constantly breaking down. My steering column needs to be replaced aswell, car burns MASSIVE amounts of oil. I'm a bit more mechanically inclined since last time I asked. I want to know has anyone done this swap? And what all was required. I'm sure mounts are a bit different, but can anyone get really specific? I have a 2.2L Turbo in my red 86 Turbo Z that if possible after the tII is tried out, I would like to put that into the black IROC. Make the car more than just looks and tiny amounts of HP. Can anyone help me?

You can always fix the oil burning in the V-6. It is not all difficult to do unless the valve guides have dropped in which the heads have to come off. You do not know until you look.

For the 4 cyl swap, you need the 4 cyl engine mounts, 4 cylinder transmission, ALL the hard parts for the 4 cyl; Long block, intake manifold, fuel rail, fuel injectorss, exhaust manifold, turbocharger, oil and coolant lines for the turbocharger, accessory drive belts, alternator belt tensioner, water pump, upper and lower radiator hoses, heater core hoses, air conditioner hoses, air conditioner compressor, a 1990-1991 turbo engine computer, a 1991 engine wiring harness. That is about it. Alternators may be different--not sure on this.

Sound easy enough, so basically just a whole engine/tranny, comp and mounts and wiring harness?

Correct, but add alternator, A/C components, coolant hoses, half dozen brackets, air box, intake plumbing... you get the idea.

THe hardest thing to find is the electronics. Good luck, man.

Well I don't have A/C in the engine I might be using, so I won't worry about that. The 90-91 comp, that's all I need as for 'electronics' right? Seeing as I have the engine engine running in the 86

you need EVERYTHING as far as electronics go.
Otherwise you will have a POS pile that wont run and then someone like me buys and puts a 3.0 back in it.

Well seeing I'd be swapping the ENTIRE engine, I would just need a new comp right? after removing 3.0 equipment and using everything from the 86

The entire underhood wiring harness you will need as well, unless you plan on making your own. Even then, as I said before, the 1991 wiring harness is still substancially different, but is the next closest match. It will NOT be a plug-in-and-drive setup.

I'm thinking about putting my 89 shelby engine/ trans into my 91 IROC. Does this mean I will need a 91 SHELBY turbo comp or any 90-93 turbo comp?

maybe.

for your v-6 to 4cyl. forget that whole idea. you'll never get it to work. the wiring alone will completely destroy that project from ever running again. for less than $300 you can get a good running 3.0 that will just drop in and no f-ing around

Is your 91 IROC a Turbo or 3.0? If it's a 2.5 turbo then you will need to use a 2.2 cal. 3.0 will mean swapping wiring and using the 89 shelby stuff.

It would be good to get a turbo tona parts car cause that would make it easier and you would have everything you need.
If you are dedicated it can be done.
