This blew my mind when I noticed it today, Car is a 89 gts with a 2.5 intercooled and 523. No cat 20 inches of vac I bought the car as it sits and it runs great aside from not wanting to pass emissions. Pulls 14 lbs of boost no problem and hits cut out. But while underhood today I noticed there was no hose coming off the wastegate can. Turbo is a T-2 with small can. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the wastgate can require vaccum to open?

Yes,the WG can uses boost to push it open. With that unhooked the your car will make as much boost as the turbo can physically put out.

Go the safe route. The old skool way was good back then, but now we have the ablity to push these cars father and alot more safer. Cal, +40s, 3Bar MAP, AFPR, good 2.50" or larger exhaust, and wideband!

The plus to these is a cleaner look, more reliable setup, Plus if you ever get to a point you want to go back to stock those parts hold a pretty good re-sell value.

be careful and watch your A/F (and get EGT too, or buy a wideband) otherwise zener+20 psi = melted pistons

running without a hose on the wastegate WILL cause a failure! maybe not right away, but it will either overspin the turbo and blow it up, or overboost the engine and blow it up.

^simple and right to the point. lol

Go with FWD-P or TU parts for performance once ago ~ much safer for good performance and more reliable!

It's true!! My stock boost control system failed me on my first turbo and I didn't have a boost gauge at the time. It overspun and flat out broke. Now I have a boost gauge and running 11 psi with a G-valve. Much safer and my turbo loves me

I have a box pull of melted and cranked 8valve pistons(2.5 and TII) All because of "oops I unhooked the WG can for max boost" Dont do it!

You will damage your pistons if you start running big boost without the right setup. Get that hose back on there.
