I decided to check a few things when I had the hood popped today to see where I was going to mount my mbc. Well I checked my timing belt, It is unbeleiveably loose. The car has had a rough idle since I bought it. I looked up how to adjust it on all data and it says I need to use a special too, is there a way to adjust it without the special tool? This is on a turbo 2 engine as well, its my only car I have a motorcycle but its raining today

You can adjust tension so that you can just turn the belt 90 degs, then turn the engine over by hand 2 revolutions and recheck.

I agree w/STREET RACER, get the tool and do it right since you have never adjusted one of these belts before. Once you set it with the tool twist the belt just like NAJ told you to and then it becomes obvious exactly what he means.

The weight tool is fairly inexpensive. The K-D tool # is 3282.
If you do decide to use the weight tool it is self adjusting by putting it on the tensioner and rotating the engine by hand 2 revolutions, the weight automatically tensions the belt but,the tool has to be installed in the correct geometry with the sprockets to work properly so be sure to find an illustration showing this.
