Heck, I saw a commercial for what is in essence the Ford Festiva, which it is now a Ford Fiesta, same damn thing. But I think that we are getting back into an age of both the good looking cars mixed with the WTF looking cars (Prius, Fit, and every other clown car)

are you kidding, it's a BLAST to drive. and even more fun putting in gas. $20 fills it up, 300+ miles of pure driving excitement. the only thing more fun thatn driving this car is laughing at the SUV's filling up @ $130+ for the same miles driven.

The VW diesels require special maintainence, not to mention the inital cost. Then can we bring up the fact that people driving diesels right now are being completely ripped off! I think I saw $4.45/gal for that the other day! For somebody in a city with a lot of slow/stop&go, or short trips, the Prius is still a better option IMHO. My dad has one, it gets around 53mpg...it went down when they started adding ethonol to the fuel where he lives, it used to get around 55-57mpg.

As far as a motorcycle is concerned...I'm personally going to get my endorsement at the end of the month. I'll have a bike for the fall. I only drive 3 miles to school. It makes NO sense to run my car for that short distance(where it only gets around 24mpg), plus it gets beat up by the crappy roads in Daytona Beach. In Florida you aren't required to have insurance on your bike. I've done some reseach and for my purposes a motorcycle is, for the most part, a better mode of transport. the only exceptions being when it rains, or when I have to come back up to Jacksonville. I do plan on getting a bike large enought o go on the highway though(safely)...Honda Shadow Ace 750.

Plus, I already look like a biker, and I do live part time in Daytona Beach..the motorcycle capitol of the world! Might as well take advantage of it!

I took a trip up to Illinois in the 89 2.5 lebaron convertible automatic running around 7-8 psi of boost. Highway mileage coming up I averaged around 38-40 and on the way back hauling ass at 85 mph I got around 32-33

you know if we buy from american gas companies, gas goes down. i work right by a sunoco, so it's pretty convenient for me. u.s. gas companies are usually cheaper too. also, people like to write into local papers or news companies saying about gas strikes, and people go with it, so gas companies are forced to lower their gas that way too. truckers did here about a month ago. went down $.20 and hasn't got back up yet to where it started.

I call BS. I have 4 lebaron convertables. Not one pulls better than 30. My 1988 omni stick at best got 39!!! there is no freaking way you can get 40mpg in a 3000+# car!!! unless you were including the miles you were being towed because it was broke down in typical TD fashion

I'm fat and have long hair. If that doesn't scream biker....

But i agree, and I plan to get a motorcycle endorsement. Don't have a bike lined up yet, but I'll cross that bridge when i get to it. What do modern bikes get MPGwise anyway?

40 mpg with an automatic?! Do tell, what's your secret? My old Daytona Pacifica used to get low 30's on the highway with an automatic and that was almost an act of God. I can't imagine one getting into the 40's.

Depends. My dad's '84 Goldwing 1100 touring edition taps in at around 80MPG, while my FIL's '04 Harley Electra-glide only gets 60MPG. Some of the smaller street bikes can go as high as 110MPG.

I call BS. I owned an 1100 wing along with being in the wing club, and the best mileage I ever got was 40. there is no way possible to get 80 on a wing. my R80 BMW at best gets 42. And the only harley that could even come close to 60 was the old Italian AMF 90cc import from the 70's (what a POS they where) you can't tell me that your daddy's wing is pulling Moped fuel mileage!!!
