UnaClocker, while that article has a point, it misses one BIG thing...there are a LOT of politicians that have MAJOR investments in oil...they are going to keep fuel prices in a range that makes them filthy friggin rich and the rest of the population stupid poor. While I agree that the price of nearly everything is going up, one thing that kind of strikes me as odd is the fact that when you go to change your oil, the motor oil really hasn't gone up much in price. Hmmm....makes you think a bit.....
Just wanted to add I broke the 30mpg wall for my car today! I drove from Jacksonville to Sebring and got all the way back to Daytona before I had to refill(and a stupid expensive $4.33/gal!!!). I got 31.1mpg at an average speed of around 62mph. That was fairly mixed driving as when I was heading back from Sebring I kept hitting traffic lights and got mixed up in a little traffic in Orlando. If I can make the WB send the signal to my SMEC and I can change the switch point a bit higher, I bet I could get 35mpg easily on the highway!
I also noticed that around 70-75mph that there was a difference of 3-5mpg on my 12-button traveler depending on whether I was following another car or not. I found that using the standard 3-second rule worked VERY well, and even having a car beside me made an improvement! Just something to think about when cruising on the highway. Oh, and I did verify that my vacume did register slightly higher(numerically in the vac side of my gage) when following other cars. I also found that if a car was following me I gained about 2mpg, no other changes..I did not slow down(I did let off the gas a tad becuase not as much throttle was needed to maintain speed).
I just thought that was some interesting info...
