It is capped & welded to a flat plate once out of site, then welded to 2" tubing down the sides and through the floor, then welded to the frame. VERY funcional.

1) 2.2 or 2.5? - Mostly likely a 87 TII 2.2
2) 52 mm Throttle Body? Most likely stock 46mm
3) 525 or 555 Transmission? Most likely A555. Check the tag on top of the transmission.
4) IMSA Valve Ported Head? It's a G head, that's all you can tell from the exterior.
5) Two Piece Intake? Yes
6) Low Restriction Intercooler? Count how many tube of fins you have and report back.
7) Larger Turbo Compressor & Turbine? Only way to tell is to take the turbo off and measure it.
8) 400 cc Injectors? Most likely stock injectors. Read the part number on them and do a search.
9) Does It Look Like This Setup Is Good For 236 hp? Should be fine, compression test and leak down test.

Perhaps you can call Chrysler to see if they can get you some paper work?

My understanding was that the TRUE pace cars had a prototype Super 60 package on them.

-I agree that it is more than likely a 2.2
-The throttle body does not really look like a 46mm, and if it IS a prototype Super 60, then it would probably have a 52mm.
-I'm almost 100% certain it would have a 555
-There's no way to tell if it is an IMSA head or not with it on the engine, but as before, if it IS a prototype S60, then it probably has a matching head.
-Agreed, definatly a 2-peice.
-I counted the fins and there were 10 in the picture. I *think* that's the high-flow unit used with the S60 package...
-You *may* be able to see the A/R on the exhaust hounsing of the turbo, but if you can't the only way to tell is to take the turbo off and measure...
-If everything else is following the way I *think* it should, then it probably has +40's for injectors...I agree, part number will probably tell all...
-Most definatly could produce that much power. I can't remember what the Pace Cars were supposed to be rated at, but the production S60 package was *supposed* to be good for 300hp at the crank. Provided the engine is in good shape, it should at LEAST be able to produce 200hp(has a low restriction exhaust on it from what I could tell on the pictures). I agree to do compression and leak down on the engine before pushing it. Also, change all fluids! If there are any rubber fuel lines on it, replace them!

I have to agree with others that it's a regular TII, with a 555 transmission, and the "Indy" intercooler.

As for verifying whether it's "THE missing pace car", call the Chrysler Museum and the IMS Museum. Ask them for the VINs for the cars they have. My guess is the four should be sequential.

If you talk to the right person at each(ask for a curator...not some tour guide), maybe they'll let you get close enough to take pics to compare with yours? Specifically, I would compare the strut tower bar, the instrument cluster, and the X-frame under the rear suspension.

I have contacted the 500 museum and condifrmed the VIN of the car in their possession. It is two off of mine the four the only specialy prepped Lebarons by Chrysler have the VINs ending 77-80. Mine is 78 and the one at the the track is 80. I have learned asking for someone with an office position is useless, asking someone who has direct access all day long to the cars to get a pen and write down the VIN is much more productive. I called the 500 museum three times and gave my info and reason for calling to real person and was told that I would be contacted. Never happened. Three days later I called and asked to talk to host or tour guide, it was at the end of the day, but he called me back first thing the next morning with the VIN. As far as the cluster and x bracing goes, I would Imagine that those were added once the car hit the PPG Pace circuit. So, far I can get no return calls from Unser's people or the Chrysler Museum. For alot more info see the other thread on this forum "The 87 500 Pace Car Under PPG Clothing", or check out ****************, in the Original turbo forum, "Actual and missing Indy 500 Pace Car" thread.

The directions to the other thread didn't work. You may have to space the letters out or something...

I like that under-body brace.
The tranny has a rubber fill plug. My 555 tranny has a rubber fill plug and my 525 tranny has a steel fill plug. It's more likely a 555 tranny.

Hi, I was browsing EbayMotors for a 4cyl. manual convertible. I just moved to a resort town (Traverse City, MI) and was toying with the thought of having a convertible in the few warm months we have! Anyway, I am an automobile enthusiast, I don't know it all but I know a bit more than your average female, and I have NEVER seen a LeBaron that I liked. Not only do I like this vehicle but I am absolutely in love with it. It is so unique and just an interesting artifact in the automobile industry! The history of this vehicle is awesome and something I will never forget! I definitely cannot afford it but I just wanted to voice my appreciation for this gem. Congrats on the excellent find, I am glad I came across it, I am sure that I would have never known about it if you hadn't posted it on Ebay!
