2 13mm bolts(pass. side mount), 3 18mm bolts(front mount~2-engine;1 transmission). around the transmission and starter, power steering, and that should be it.

when I pulled my block, I left my trans in to avoid all the b.s. IROCNOROLL talked about.
It was the easiest freaking thing to do with a lift-plate for a V8. I put the lift-plate on a certain way and the motor was completely, I said completely, balanced. All I had to do was support the trans with a jack and slid the engine up and away. I expected some sort of struggle - but this was stupid-easy . I had to take a bunch of crap off the "front" of the motor 'cause it was in an L-Body - you may have more room.
Here are some pics of what I'm talking about the lift-plate and how balanced it was:
Good luck

I used a cheap-o "come-a-long"
the short block w/o trans or head weighs <200#
+1 on the balance point ; the batter balanced you have the motor, the easier the clutch spline will slide in&out ; can make the diff between PITA and not

You can do it the hill billy way with no hoist or picker. Just remove all the bolts from the engine that mount it to the tranny, remove the passenger and front motor mounts (with a jack under hte motor of course). then slide the engine away from the tranny. Jack up the car and remove the block from under the car. Block isn't that heavy like 100 lbs or so. Probably more awkward than heavy. I've done it twice and it worked. With one helper getting it back in wasn't too difficult either.

haha would it be wise to put a sled or something under the block so i can easily roll it out, IF i was going to do it the hillbilly way. I called star rentals a rental company by my house and its 25 dollars a day for a cherry picker. Im thinking about just doing that but then i wont know where to rap the chains, i would do the balance plate thing on the top of the block but i dont have any idea where to get one of those, if you even can. Is there an alternate way to use the chains from the cherry picker to pick the block up?

Look just thread some shorter bolts in the head bolt holes at opposite corners of the block. Also look on your local bargain newspaper, people sell them cherry pickers for like $50 used. You will need it twice so it is the same price as renting minus having to hassle back and forth and worry about late fees.
