Hey guys

I'm just looking for any advise or info.......
What happened was the timing belt broke on my 90' Daytona. I have since replaced the water pump & Timing belt but she wont run right. She'll only run with the throttle open full & she makes a chuging sound. It feels like she is trying to push the exhaust back out through the Carb. I'm thinking I got value bent. Is this a common problem with the 3.0's when they bust a valve????

Sound to me that you got your timing off. I never heard of a 3.0 bending the valves when the timing belt breaks

I would agree that the distributor is most likely 1 tooth off...

If you swing the distributor to one extreme then the other, you will find one way that engine runs better, but not good enough... It will tell you which way you need to move the distributor...

these dissys aint got enough movement in the slot to make up 1 tooth off. and if he did a timing belt y would u pull the dissy? if he didnt pull the dissy to do the belt, then the dissy aint off, the cam is. these motors are tricky to get both cams timed to crank. front one is under tension and wants to jump a couple teeth. extra hands sure helps getting them on right. when i do these motors, it turn the crank a bunch of times and double/triple check cam crank timing. if u do this right, the dissy is dead nuts on time.

I never touched the Plug wires, I only took the side off the engine to do the timing belt. The Car ran like a Top before she busted the belt. Is there a chance that she bent the valves? Or is it really unlikely for her to do that? I'm gonna have to do a compression test & C what that tells me........

It is impossible to bend the valves. It is very easy to be one tooth off at the crank or either head. Which will give the EXACT symptoms you are describing.

Double, triple, and quadrouple check your timing. You got something wrong
If all you replaced was the timing belt and didn't do anything else then it has to be something to do with the timing.

You're certain your cam timing is good? Do the compression test you said you were gonna do. If you have piss-poor #'s all the way around- crank is off; if you just got piss-poor #'s on one bank - that cam is off; if you got bad #'s for one cylinder - maybe got a bad seat or dropped guide.

I never said that he could make up one tooth. I just said that it would run better. Then he would know which way the distributor was off...

That said, if he didn't pull the distributor, then that is not likely the issue. Getting the crank right or sheared cam pin are more likely right now...
