its very possible you have a different control cluster than what is supposed to be in there. or the vac harness is hiding up inside the dash. pull out the dash trim bezel and the message center as well as the instrument cluster. you'll be able to see thing a lot easier. was there a slide cable connected to the climate control when you pulled it out? an electronic control only has one connector going to it with about 30 wires going to it in a large molex type plug. a manual cluster will have large gauge wires running to a 5-6 pun harness that plugs into the control head, and a second smaller plug for ac on of etc and a slide cable similar to a brake cable on a bike. once you have the message center out you will easily be able to see if the vacuum harness is tucked up in there. have you removed the glove box yet? take out the glove box, along with the lower panel below it- thats where all the blend doors and servos etc they are showing in those pics are located. should be able to follow vacuum harness to where its hiding if you trace it from that area. if you see a medium sized molex connector with about 20 wires going into a panel from the top with a vacuum harness also going into that, then you have an electronic climate control. with the glove box, instrument cluster and message center removed, take clear pics and post them on here so we can tell exactly which system you have- i just had to do a bunch of work on my 88 lebaron to get the blend doors and blower motor working correctly, its the same setup in your car. dont get right up on the stuff taking pics- stand back a lil bit, like in the back seat and take picss, then get closer and take pics into the dash.
its almost sounding like someone took out the electronic control thinking they could just drop in a manual, realised it wouldnt work and just put a manual in there and put the dash back together. remember- clear pics!
