Wondering if anyone would want to take some educated or non educated... guesses as to what this may be..... First noise i know i've heard before but sounds along the lines almost like the rockers or something are slapping really hard or maybe another way to describe is while driving in the lower rpms i would say is when i hear it more and it clanks slightly. Wierd thing is it doesn't always do it, and seems to do it more like if i'm going up a hill. I wondered if it was my clutch or maybe something with a rod? When it happens i can feel the clutch vibrate a bit.

Another note, i'm guessing this developed from my injector harness having issues (occasionally check engine light for #3 injector not firing) but i know my clutch is having issues due to a bad clutch cable. I checked compression and thats still good all through, spark plugs had a little white on them but didn't look bad, timing is dead on (i just replaced timing belt cause i thought maybe it jumped a tooth and looked like it may have, there was also oil deposits on timing belt due to oil pan leak) but it seems to idle ok. I'm not 100% sure if it did this before since i just threw on a muffler and now i can actually hear the motor.

Ok there is another slight noise, after changing the timing belt, i'm getting a minor rattle from one of the pulleys. I checked them all though and all bolts are tight. i pulled off the a/c belt and noise seemed to have reduced . Sounds like an occasional metal clanky. like it's nicking something . Guess i should of checked to make sure the alternator blade isn't hitting anything...

I would start by removing all the accessory belts and go for a short drive to see if the noise is gone. Remember, the water pump isn't spinning with no belts on there, so make it short!

The metallic clankity clank noise could be detonation, which is normal to occur more so under engine load. What about ignition timing?

Ok so first, I didn't think the car would run very well without the alt. belt but i try it. Ok so as far as the clanky noise, i wonder if the harness is still screwing things up. Like maybe works good enought hat doesn't turn on the check engine but bad enough it doesn't feed the fuel properly? I won't have a new one for another few days. Is it possible to buy replacement pins for the harness at an auto store? (never looked) I'd just do that otherwise.

SO after a 3 hour drive i've come to a conclusion what the noise is. I don't think i explained it very well but now i'm about 90% sure it's the clutch. From what i can tell it doesn't make the noise when i'm coasting and just reving the engine and does make it when i accelerate. I guess the best way i can describe it now is sounding like a a warped axle or similar. Just like something isn't rotating smoothly. It's certainly coming from the lower end and i completly forgot that would explain my oil leak. I thought it was just the oil pan but doesn't oil leak out the flywheel when clutch is bad? it's a fresh oil mess down there. Everything below the speed sensor is splashed. So maybe the pressure plate is cracked on the clutch? i dunno...

I'm back again! Now i'm second guessing myself on that noise... I doubt it's detonation. K i have another way to describe it. Sounds like that ticking noise when your low on oil but the tone is much deeper and seems to be centralized on the passenger side (course could be wrong) i would guess on the lower half.. Anyone have experience with odd noises? Like i said before it's entirely possible it was always making this noise when the muffler was off but i kinda doubt it and the only ailment my car has been doing is a crappy injector harness
