rattle inside her- Video
This is a cold startup. Sounds the same when warm.

The sound started after a 1,2,3,4 gear run 2.5 weeks ago. had to pull over because the brakes boiled and I thought maybe a vac hose came off (but it was just boiled fluid). That is when I became aware of the nasty rattle. Drove it to someones house nearbye, pulled it apart. Checked the lifters. One was sorta loose so I replaced it. I pulled the oil pan and checked the rods. No loose rods. No lost oil pressure.

Is this a loose piston pin? That means my pistons are toast I would like it to be a valvetrain problem but I dont think I am that lucky. Its on the rear of the engine, cylinders 1 3 5. Sound doesnt happen if you turn the engine over without starting it. It doesnt follow RPM's like a rod knock, it goes away under accelleration, and the higher you rev, the less it rattles. (at least that is what it seems like).

I took it racing since then, about a 100 mile round trip. Sounds the same as when it first happened...maybe louder, I dont remember that well. There are some exhaust leaks on the downpipe farther down at a 3 bolt flange but not much.

Has custom pistons/pins from Venolia. I also dont know how piston pin rattle would go from zero to loud in 20 seconds. We had been messing around doing some burnouts before that run and on the limiter a lot so thats why I was inspecting the lifters.

I still plan on going racing again this Friday because its the last race and if the motor is hurt, one more trip ain't gonna make the repair anymore expensive. If a piston is hurt then I'm not going to be able to have forged slugs for a long time.

I am pulling the oil pan again to modify something so I will verify the rods are still happy.

No. I have gear rattle in the trans and that goes away when you push on the clutch.

why is there pieces of valve guide seals in the pan lol? I would suggest getting an automotive stethiscope and use that to listen around, u can really pinpoint details on specific areas. I want to say its something in the valvetrain ( OR possibly 1 or more pistons' wristpin's are bad). Which is why ur not finding anything in the pan, hearing a noise dont mean u gotta find bearing pieces, wristpins can make a very similar noise as a rod knock and of course ur not going to find anything in the pan till the piston lets go and in which case u prob wont find nuthin in the pan still but ur head might get split wide open lol.

It was an exhaust leak that sounded like the death of the motor. Fixed the leak and the sound is gone.
