Im looking at a 1985 Charger that i can grab on the cheap...

The guy says it was stored for a year then brought out and is running with a low oil pressure light...

i havent looked at it yet, but what could be the worse case scenario causing the low oil pressure, and what could be the best case scenario?

well, worst case is it has fried crank/cam bearings and you have to rebuild the engine, or a bad oil pump, which is not as bad as it sounds-they are not that hard to replace

-best case? you could get lucky, it's low on oil and what's in it is thin/low viscosity-any noises, at all? Does it have an idiot light and a gauge? The factory gauges are not great, and I found out that if you get the wrong sender unit/application, you think it's low when it is not at all. There is a brass junction block where an oil line can be tapped in to a mechanical gauge (front of engine, to the right of the distributor), if you have doubts you could hook one up fairly easily and check it out.

Alright i might look into checking it with the mechanical gauge.

He didnt mention any noises when i spoke to him... I havent been out to look at it and drive it yet.

I really hope its nothing major because i really would love to get this car, but it needs to be ready for dd right after i buy it...

i dont have the time to get it and tear it down, if i did i would get it anyways...

thanks for the help, who knows i might be rolling out in this beast soon :-D
