After replacing my head gasket, I now have a lot of play in my throttle and kickdown cables. The throttle has an inch alone before going into the cruise control module. If I put my foot to the floor, the actuator lever sticks and holds at WOT.

Is there some way to adjust this slop?

The car is a '94 Acclaim 2.5 N/A auto, A/C, cruise control.

hate to say it but you messed up something on the assembly. there is no adjustment. i'm sure is was fine before you fixed it now there's something not put together the same way it was before you took it apart. check your cable routing, check the bracket is properly installed, that you didn't mix up cable locations, and so on

The braket only goes on one way, and the cables can't really routed incorrectly without causing a major bind in them. It literally seems as though the cable is now longer than when I started, impossible as it is.

I have Gary Gokey coming tomorrow to look at it.

How about that? Gary stood me up and I've gotten absolutely no help here.

The car's going to the scrapper tomorrow since it can't be repaired.

Thanks guys, I appreciate everything.

You don't understand; there's no way there should even be such a problem. There's no adjustment, so when I put everything back together, it's now an inch longer than when I started, which means I have almost no pedal at all.

I've had nothing but problems with this car and I've just about had it. I came here in desperation, but I got no help. If you'd like to come and look at it, you're welcome to it. Otherwise, I have absolutely no idea what the problem could be.

welcome to owning a quality american made car.

now for your problem. it's quite apparent that there is some kind of assembly error. it was fine before you fixed it. seems like it's time for you to back off, let someone else look at it. or go find another similar car and see how that is put together. maybe this will make the problem more clear.

Okay, Gary did finally come through for me. We got the cables sorted out, the brakes bled, the timing marks set up, and the thing put back together. The only remaining problem is the timing at the distributor; I can't time it because it has an aftermarket torque convertor with no marks. The car will go back to the shop on Friday for fine tuning. He's family, so he probably won't charge me.

This is my hobby? This is what I enjoy? There's definately something wrong with me.

damn, you fixed it now you're going to be posting more and more problems

so how did you solve the problem, what was the cause of your threat to junk the car (or were you just crying wolf)

i really hate when people post a problem but never post a solution so others can learn what can happen if..... and how to fix a problem by ....

post your findings and results!!!!

No, I was just enormously frustrated when I posted that, although I did threaten to set it on fire at one time, too.

I'm sure I'll have more problems to address in the very near future.
