Sounds like a bearing, maybe connecting rod?

Yeah spun a rod bearing was full of oil, great oil pressure, from what we can tell it was a junk bearing. It was plasigauged when it was assembled and it was perfect so that is our best guess from what it looks like. By the way crusty where do you go to school at? I went to Ranken, graduated may this year with an associates degree in automotive maintenance.

i'll be going to east central over here in union. they have a really good machine shop program.
ranken huh? i wnet there back in 97. great facilities, horrible school. i also went for auto mantenance. quit and changed to forrest park when i realised they had the same program for less than half the money. class sizes were a lot smaller too. 15-20 students per class versus 75-100 like ranken. the instructors would do lecture turn us loose in the shop to do all kinds of testing/ assignments but they'd go hide in the office for the remainder of the period. made it hard to get questions answered or even graded on assignments! that and that school is litterally located in one of the worst ghettos in st louis. anybody ever ty to car jack you? tried to do it to me twice. but anyways i decided to get out of working on cars for aliving completely. when the economy dropped and gas shot up it got dead in a hurry. i hope you were able to find a job in a shop before the shyt hit the fan- i quit my job in st louis cause i was tired of driving, and could not find anything anywhere- nobody is hiring at all. thats what prompted the wholesale change, cause unless youre working for a dealership that stays consistently busy you just dont get ahead at all. got really tired of busting my ass for nothing.

I agree with everything you said about ranken except one thing. I started out with 23 in my class and after all was said and done we graduated 15. But as far as instructors disappearing you are not by chance talking about mr wilson or mr davenport? Never got carjacked but they stole the car next to me. They must not like kias I work in earth city servicing factory and extended warranty claims. Did an internship at Dobbs (big mistake) then worked at an independent shop for a while.

i did time at dobbs too. i worked at the one in yorkshire plaza if that tells you anytihng ( its the one that burned down)
do NOT work for firestone! worked there for a year and a half the shop was ok but theres some shady shit they do. like mitchel- firestone has a special version of mitchel made just for them. all the labor times are different from what they are really supposed to be. like a set of 4 tires is supposed to pay 1.6 - not at firestone- pays .6 i would have been flagging 60+ hours a week if i would have been getting paid the correct time. i got sick of it and quit.
mr wilson is one of the guilty parties! he was the worst actually. is he still teaching the electrical class or did he move to a diff area? him and mr gentles were the worst 2 offenders for running and hiding.
NEVER EVER work on RV's - did that for a year and was easily the worst job i ever had! theres no repair manuals, therefore no labor times. so you can only make 100% and no more. plus most shops charge more per hour to work on em but the tech doesnt see a dime of that.
sounds like you got a decent gig, hold onto it, i always prefer to work for a big shop versus independants. at least when a big shop is slow the owner wont go running around yelling at everybody for doing nothing when theres nothing to do. plus big shops are less likely to pull shady shit like not give you your last check when you quit or steal tools out of your box etc...

Yeah I hear ya. Wilson is still teaching the electrical class afaik. They relocated the GM training center and gentals stayed with the building. However you HAVE to go down and check out the new high performance racing building. When I worked the car show that is where I was. I was one of the guys working the dyno. Also that is where all my block work was done (by me not just any other student) all brand new Sunnen machines it is beautiful. But anyway yeah I'll be building my hybrid over the winter. I'll let you know when I get it done we will have to meet up sometime.
