Hi guys, I just bought an 89 lebaron convertible 2.5L turbo automatic yesterday and I'm having a problem with it running rough, not all the time though, sometimes it runs perfect. It shows a code 27 on the check engine light. I have replaced the plugs, plug wires, rotor and distributer cap but it still sounds like it missing. You can pull the wires off of cyc 1 and 2 and it won't make any difference in the way it runs. I have done a compression test and they all show about 150. We hooked a vacume pump up to the egr valve while running and that didn't make any difference. Sometimes I get white smoke from the tail pipe when its running good. I am running injector cleaner through in now while I'm driving it, but it will take another week to empty the tank. If I start it and its running rough some times I can turn it off and start it again and it will be fine. Any ideas would be helpful thanks. I have also posted a question in general electrical.

Well if two of your cylinders aren't even firing, that might cause your car to run rough.

Code 27 is injector control circuit, only a scanner will give you the detailed description of which cylinder is involved but if 1 + 2 are the cylinders not responding that is where I would be looking for the wiring problem in the injector harness/connector(s).

I need to know why they are not fireing, it will run fine one time and the next time I start it it will run bad. I can shut it off and restart it right away and it might run fine again. As far as the headgasket, compressions at 150 on all cyc and there is no antifreeze in the oil so I'm not ready to take the head off yet.

Clear the code, run the car and see if the code 27 returns, if so that is where you begin your diagnostics.

Whatever it was seems to have fixed itself, its ran perfect for the last 3 days, I'm thinking that the 1 and 2 injectors were clogged and the white smoke was from the injector cleaner.

Glad to hear it is running better, can't fix it if it isn't broke.
