Well today my cam shaft broke into 2 pieces... right between #1 cyl intake and exh valve.

i was wondering if anyone in the charlotte area has a 2.2 T2 head just lying around collecting dust they wouldnt mind getting rid of for a fair price. I really dont have the money at the moment to do a total rebuild like i want. I dont want to see my car get parted out, as she has treated me well and its only right to do the same in return.

The car is an 89 daytona shelby 2.2 T2 manual.

Thanks

Steven

Broken shaft is caused by too much tension. This either was improper timing belt tension or head rebuild process was machined badly that camshaft journals is not parallel with head's deck that timing belt "walks" towards head at correct tension. Some "quickie" fix put extra tension on the belt to mkae it center away from the head. Bad fix.

That is reason I advise finding good head rebuilder that straightens warped heads FIRST before doing final light cut on the head's deck in PARALLEL with the camshaft journals. Very important and often not done properly.

Cheers, Wizard

huh, i just took 4 bolts off and pulled the water pump assembly off the engine then changed the pump. seemed i didnt need to touch the timing belt or even remove the timing belt cover. sounds like an awfully hard way to change a waterpump.

i was doing 75 when the cam broke, so i was spinning pretty good. the cam shaft wore a groove in the middle of the bearing surface and chewed up the side of the bearing to the point of having a nice lip...ill get some pix later today

EDIT: my water pump has 9 or 10 bolts that hold it on...how does yours only have 4? i mean my mark 8 has 5 or 6 but that sits right in front between the heads...did different year engines have different water pumps?

Did you change the water pump with the housing still attached to the engine? Yes, different years had slightly different water pumps, but I believe they all use the same housing.

mine looks like a squash...ewww i hate squash...on mine i see no way only 4 bolts hold it on unless ur talking about the BIG housing attached to the block which i see no reason to take that huge thing off unless u remove the motor and rebuild it...
