I would like to install a trans fluid temp gauge on my Daytona, 3.0, A-604. I'm fine with mounting the gauge and running lines through the firewall, but then where? Is it some sort of sensor that i need to hook up to the trans? I just wanna know what im getting into and how to go about it.

There is some debate on putting the sensor on one of the lines to the cooler, many just put it in the pan so thats what I would do.

Do you have a good cooler for it? If not spend the money on that 1st

A cooler would be a wise decision, the stock one blows.

ideally you would want 2 temp sensors. one in the trans output to the cooler and one on the cooler return or pan. this will show you if the trans cooler is working efficiently.

1 sensor will be ok and in the pan is just fine. most times i weld a fitting to the pan (obviously i drill a hole and weld the fitting around the hole) then screw in a temp sensor. you can use and electrical temp gauge or mechanical really doesn't matter. the pan temp is basically what the temp is comming from the cooler. the hottest temp is what comes from the converter. in a drag race application, it's actually better to know the temp off the converter. trans fluid will start to break down at temps over 300°F. So watching the temp off the converter (where all the heat is made) seems to help the trans live longer:' assuming you actually do things to prevent super high temps.
